It's been great for the tube and a recent visit to a water park.

Also now using a McLear Ringpay which is largely brilliant.

That Ringpay looks like a good idea. Any downsides you've found?
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Can’t have a wedding, oura and another ring, I’d look daft!

I actually wear it as my wedding ring. The wife isn't overly impressed. May have to switch it to the other hand (which would actually work better for the tube).

    Pros:
More accessible than wallet, watch or phone.
Doesn't require charging (it's effectively the same as a bank card)
    Easily manageable through the app

    Cons:
Only lasts 3yrs. Apparently for security reasons, like your bank card having a limted validity. I didn't realise this before I bought it.
It's actually more like a pre-paid card that can be set up to auto-recharge from your credit card. This hasn't been a problem for me but worth noting.

Are there any restrictions on where you can top up from? It looks like it's a visa card, can you top-up from MasterCard and Amex?

    Thanks for the feedback.

I forgot to ask the tightwad question. If you I top up from a card that gives points do you still get the points?

That I don't know, probably depends how your credit card categorises the top up.

I had a similar reaction when I suggested I used my Oura as a wedding ring. So I wear two rings now!

Checked with card provider and top-ups from a credit card count as a cash advance so don't make financial sense, for me at least. Still think I would find this useful for quick payments and as an emergency payment method, I'd just top-up via a debit card.

    PM sent to you.

If anyone else fancies trying the ring, I'm happy to share a referral link.

My old Trove wallet has lost the elastic strength and needed to be binned, so my wife bought my one of these for my birthday.

Very pleased and there is a bit of a theme going on here with what I leave the house with.

I’ve no idea why car keys have become so large, utterly ridiculous trend. Only needs a lock, unlock and boot button, surely!

Yep, you think the manufacturers could surround an RFID chip in a smaller package.

But, I guess if you make it smaller there is the risk of losing the key.

By that logic you'd make the key the size of a basketball ... I'd have thought they'd be tiny or virtual now so you just used an app ... or built an AirTag or similar tracker into the key and made it very small ... looks annoying to be so large ...

I've been thinking for some time about getting rid of my chunky wallet because there's no real need for it. I don't need all of my credit cards on me because I pay for everything with my phone anyway. I like the minimalistic look of the elegant black card holder from Von Baer. The site says all the products are hand-crafted. Does anyone have experience with this brand? It looks like they really sell good products and their online reviews are good.

Was looking at new wallets but decided against, inflation had done a fine job behind the scenes.

I have the Ring pay and use it a lot, i have found the need to login before reaching a prescribed spend £200 cumulative or a period of time has tripped me up a bit. Also in a Restaurant in Austria it would not transact, card machine was saying wrong pin too many times. A pin reset in the app on my phone quickly cured that. It is just brilliant on holiday round the pool or on the beach.

I have a nice card holder made from 200+ year old Russian Reindeer leather recovered from the wreck of the Metta Catherena 1786 but I never use it anymore and it is in my wife’s handbag, I just used apple pay now for everything never carry cards or cash

Same here. Wallets, no matter how thin, are completely redundant.

I wish that were the case but weekly I need to get cash out for a sports club that only accepts cash so that requires a debit card and I can't escape an Oyster Card because you can't load railcard discounts onto apple pay.

After trying many thin wallets, I keep going back to the Loft of Cambie Wolyt sleeve. Don't think it can be beaten.

I was completely unaware of RingPay, what a great idea!

My Apple Ultra never leaves my wrist though, so it wouldn't be an upgrade or add any convenience for me

    Fabulous idea though

I also still need to carry cash and a few coins, plus quite a few cards, so recently got hold of a Bellroy Note Sleeve in a discontinued veg tanned leather (now seem to have switched to chrome tanned for the main line of them). Thankfully this one also has the stamped logo rather than the metal owl, which would have been very annoying on pocket material.

It's such a nice change from my old bulky wallet, I now even take it rather than just loose cards given the extra redundancy it provides.

For you perhaps, not for everyone.

Driving licence, work ID, other IDs, credit/debit for larger transactions, cash for small purchases below card limits, cash for cashless businesses, cash for tips, discount schemes/cards (where not available via Apple Pay), transport cards, etc. Lots of reasons people may wish to carry a wallet that wouldn't be redundant.
