I’m still in my GTi, I love it though, it’s so much fun on a twisty road

Couple of quick and dirty photos, it’s been such terrible weather when I’ve wanted to take a few snaps. Wanted to tick off a big N/A V8 for a while. It was an impromptu purchase, as I was really looking for an SLK55.
It’s a 2009, it’s a private plate, so has the 5.5 V8 with 380bhp. E500 Coupe, for those unaware. Goes like stink and photographed in it’s favoured watering hole!
Bit of a change from the GT86!
Lovely engine there, also love the noise of the SLK55; recall being overtaken by one in my S2000 and was in awe of the noise as it left me in its wake.
I want to scratch the V8 itch also, Mustang or Cobra are on the shortlist but am sure I regret getting rid of the Cayman dynamically - and I cannot swap the Smart for a V8 lol.
Fair enough, but you still have to look at them on the drive
Haha true - but I always reverse onto the drive so would never see it lol.
In fairness my last BMW was the F82 M4, so pre grille-gate era.
Will always drop a window when a 63s is next to me thought traffic lights & pull off as gently as I can to hear their noise over mine!
Cannot imagine the new 2.0 version will create quite the same hairs standing up on my neck effect, sadly.
Estate too, practicality! They look so good in white too, neighbour has the coupe and love hearing it start up.
Quite a few nice cars in our close, always interesting to see if you can work out which neighbour is leaving from the cold start up sound.
It is a strange time / place, having taken the 718 4.0 CGTS out for a test drive, it’s lost the aural impact of my 981, both exhaust and engine.
Genuinely no idea what next. Few more things to sort, so can’t yet push to a GT3 / 4 unless at retail, and no chance there based on lack of history. Almost like a Rolex AD lol.

Brabus or the standard 0.9t like mine?
Nippy little buggers aren’t they! People seem despise it when you nip past them. Brings out the worst in other driver’s and egos. Makes me enjoy it even more.
Turning circle always brings a smile to my face, utterly bonkers what it can turn in!

Do toy with the remap, but would hate to lose the character.
On a cold engine & off boost, it’s shocking! I imagine the non turbo 1.0 engine is why people thing they’re slow. On boost its a hoot for sure, we love it so much more than we thought we would.
Wish the 453 EV range was better, the new EV loses the point of a small, park anywhere car. Never had a car where checking the oil was more of a PITA than this though.
With the turning circle as good as it is, I still find reverse parking into a space I’m over correcting too much & probably look like the general public expect a Smart driver to drive like.

Thanks, yeah it’s a pretty rare car. Especially as I wanted this earlier 5.5 N/A V8, not the later 4.7TT V8.
Colour combo wouldn’t have been my choice, but it was family owned until it came to a trader and has been well looked after and maintained.
Thanks.
Mustang has been on my shopping list for a long time, but they were a car that went up a fair whack during Covid and are only just dropping really. I think they’re going to take a bit of a hit over the next year, so just made no sense to buy when dropping. Could well be next car after this, or maybe an Aston V8V.
Thanks!
Toys back in the box until spring. Abarth Esseesse, Triumph Bonneville Custom and 1967 Lambretta Special. Although the latter will still be ridden occasionally over winter.
This is my daily hack, taken a couple of years ago (pic is a bit squashed :)...
As seems to be my way, I waited for the weather to get dirty before buying a new toy
That’s a bit special isn’t it! Can we get some more pics and of the inside please.
Stunning, but yes poor timing! I snowfoamed mine and 0ppm rinse Saturday as there was a car meet at Thruxton. No deep clean, but glad I didn’t bother as it was filthy by the time I had got home. Rained heavily 5 mins after I left home and the rest is history. Luckily stayed dry at the event, but blimey always forget just how windy Thruxton is as a circuit.
Cheers! I went out in it last weekend and by the time I got home it was more mud brown than red. A quick wash soon brought it back to life although I would like to give it a proper clean.
I keep forgetting to take some of the interior but here's one a friend took last night just as it was starting to go dark.
Went out for Brunch yesterday and parked by a great old building. Couldn’t resist a photo
Seemed better in B&W

Well after a lot of deliberation I settled on an M440i LCI over an M340i touring. I preferred the styling and the extra comfort in the 4 and got a cracking deal trading in my M135i. Very pleased with it albeit still running in, but the mighty B58 mated to the XF auto box is an awesome combination.

Agreed, it is the only marque of car I’d have in red. A few M4s around in the colour but it felt like cheating so couldn’t go through with it.
Beautiful, early Xmas present to yourself after a good year I hope!
ETA I know you weren’t the purchaser Guli, screwed up quoting on iPhone!
After 5 or so years commuting to & fro' to London in the 6 cylinder M135i & latterly the M140i I decided I needed something more appropriate for that journey...
... without giving up that great engine & gearbox combo. So today I collected this ...
Should be a bit more comfy on the M4

2002 Volvo V70 2.4L petrol;, manual g/b, 53,400 miles with f.s.h. purchased Nov '23; almost completed recommissioning after 6 years SORN in previous owner's garage. Recommissioning cost more than the car's s/h purchase price but still a cost effective purchase and within my £budget. One previous owner.

"Well they would say that ... wouldn't they!"
Continuing a theme.
I really miss mine, which I sold last summer because of ULEZ.
Having owned a few different cars and car brands now I have realised that one of the most important features for me is the quality/comfort of the seat.
That V70 is nearly 20 years old but is the comfiest car I have ever sat in.
It’s not the ideal car for city driving (I have a scooter for that!) but other than that I love the thing.

7 years and never let me down save a crank position sensor. Love this old girl & the most comfortable car I have ever owned.

Collected this just before Christmas, new shape SL.
Not the sales success Mercedes were expecting & not a car to buy new due to high list prices, but a very capable car
Picked up my new to me 981 Boxster S which replaces my 987 which a nice lady wrote off for me just before December!
What a sound this one makes

But that looks lovely, nice colour and wheels

I can see an SL in my future at some point for a European road trip, the interior of the new one looks very nice.
