This could be a fun thread...
I assume cutting them in half would do it. Although you may have to do one at a time, so it may take you about 50 mins assuming it takes approx 10 seocnds per disc...probably safer than the blowtorch method!
I have probably 300 CDs / DVDs that have been sitting in the office for years that I want to dispose of ...
They have all sorts of client data on which means I'm not happy to just dispose of them in landfill ...
Any suggestions on the best way to destroy the data risk?
My best idea so far is to put them on a steel rod in a huge stack and then blow torch the edges so the are unreadable ... any better ideas?

How would you cut them in half ... they are quite hard to cut ... ???
Bench sander then recycle bin?

Just spoken to a colleague who suggests microwaving them.
You could post them somewhere via Yodel – I guarantee no one will ever see them again.
Staple gun?
What are you going to do with the discs after you damage them to prevent them being read?
There are numerous companies (e.g. SHRED-IT) who will destroy & dispose of optical media. They'll give you a Certficate of Destruction for your peace of mind. Might be worth enquiring about it as a one-time thing.

Made me laugh more than it should have!
I recently took apart some old HDD to dispose of properly. For some reason I expected the shiny inner part to be metal. Imagine my surprise when I went to bend it and it shattered into trillions of sharp pieces all over the kitchen.
I was popular. The next one I put in a plastic bag before hand. I was just astounded how long we kept finding shiny shards!
Oven method for CDs is my favourite logical one so far. Targets is however a much more fun solution.
Microwave sounds an expensive mistake waiting to happen. Unless you have an old one and do it in the garden, if so please film it!
hire a garden shredder/wood chipper for a day and dump them in that
Drill? Should be able to get through a decent stack at a time.
Cheers..

As others ( Blackal certainly) just run a stanly knife across it or a sander. Then wipe it clean and see if you can see it in a cd reader. If the device says unreadable you have a method. Ok 200/300 may take some time, but then again this is a watch forum.
Wait till November 5th, throw them on a local bonfire........if such things are still allowed in Greater London!
At the risk of being captain sensible, you must destroy personal data in accordance with your GDPR policy.
Clay shooting, inserting into a baboon, bird scarers, fancy dress accessories, etc etc not all will be compliant with you privacy regs which I anticipate would be broadly aligned with privacy regs.
More like 'Major Hassle'
Found this on 'tinternet, so can't validate it - but seems fundemental.
Can CDs, DVDs, CD-ROMs and Blu-rays be Recycled? Both the the disks and the plastic jewel cases from disks are 100% recycleable.
Scuff or score them and take to recycle centre - job done!
CD shredders on Amazon start around £30. Not too expensive if you want peace of mind.
Think what’s theoretically recyclable and what’s dealt with at local council facilities are probably not the same. I was pointed to the general waste skip when I had a load of DVDs and jewel cases to get rid of a few years ago. I spent ages deeply scratching the surface of each disc with a Stanley knife.
A commercial recycler here:

[EDIT: That’s 3 tonne min too. Can’t read.]
and another but their minimum job is quite large!

Wait until November 5th. Start a big bonfire or go to one and hurl the CDs wrapped in a paper bag onto it.
As you say…load them on to a steel rod. Then….
Grinder with a metal cutting blade (or a generic diamond blade) and just cut a deep grove straight through the lot. Job done
No idea, but might painting them render them unreadable? Or give them a chop with garden loppers/bolt cutters
Just snap them in half.
Takes a second.
So clever my foot fell off.
I have no idea of the costs but there are plenty of firms who specialise in confidentail waste disposal. I quick google found several and they all seems to offer one off collection. There might be minimim amounts.
Probably cheaper to buy/(rent?) a CD shredder.
Some office shredders have the facility. Otherwise use a screwdriver, and rake them. Maybe if you have youngish kids, get them to do it while you're keeping an eye on them, so they don't hurt themselves.
I've just filled my car with petrol, the end of the month so paid my monthly gas/electric bill, paid the council tax, house/pet/car insurance etc I wish destroying CDs was my main concern :)
Good luck which ever method you choose to dispose of them, my way put them in a corner of the attic and forget about them.
Bet that smelled disgusting!
Disappointed they weren't turned into high-end fashion.
