Phew. I'm relieved for you! This tale gave me anxiety by proxy.

Silly question, but sometimes they're the ones to ask:
Did the package have your FULL name and address on the outside as a sender? To me, that's the backstop, that's the safeguard against something going into a black hole, but it never ceases to amaze me how folks post things out and fail to include this, I receive stuff all the time that hasn`t got a full senders details on the outside.
Glad you got it back.
Result! What a nice gesture by that forum member. [I'm still amazed they found it, given I would have thought tracking would be difficult by DPD on a DHL label ...]
Lesson learned I hope, OP : double / triple check when next handing anything expensive over to a courier.
Good to see DPD's processes working and it went to Lost Property as per policy.
Brilliant news!
If that doesn't deserve a mention in Heroes (and Villians) then I don't know what does.

That’s good news - hopefully the collection drivers ears will stop burning soon !
Wonderful outcome. Mega congrats and special thanks to the forum member who assisted where they could!

Great news and well done to you and the mystery forum member!
Wow really didn't expect that, congrats bet it's like getting a new watch!
Bloody hell amazing result so happy for you
So happy for you, proof that not all heroes wear capes.
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
Just noticed it has a received time and a expiry date I wonder what happens then?

Awesome news and fabulous that a TZer assisted in reunion.
I can reveal the mystery Batman as Coot. Just don’t bombard him with all your courier sob stories..
Top man though!
While I think that the forum member who helped out deserves a lot of praise, I can't help wondering how a person with contacts within the courier was able to help in returning the parcel yet those very same contacts work within the company who absolutely failed to help the OP when the lost parcel process was pursued through regular means.
Wow what a result!
Well done to TZ member!
PS I think you should keep the watch. It’s too nice to sell.
What a result, I would be giving that man a very generous drink for his help.
So pleased for you and fantastic work by a fellow forum member.
Great to hear you got it back. I was sure when I read the first post it was lost to the ether for good.
Great result, and top man Coot. This is a good example of why TZ-UK is such a great place.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
Yay! This has made my day. Thought I'd check the forum before work to see what the latest on this story was.
Great result.
How's that saying go?
"It's not what you know, it's who you know."
Well done Coot *Legend!*
That's great news!.
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
Awesome. What a relief and fair play to TZUK!!
Great news. Props to Coot.
Ahh what a fantastic result! Im really pleased for you.
Nice one Coot
DPD were, until a couple of years ago, one of my biggest clients for coming up to 20 years.
My claim to fame (other than being in the Top Gear and The Grand Tour audience, stepping on the gladiator Shadow's foot and kicking Roland Gift while swimming) was that I wrote the DPD delivery, route planning and tracking system.
They are quite big on process at DPD and have many procedures in place to stop the easy theft of parcels but sometimes that can fall down (and people always know how to game the system).
The parcel had already been missing/gone walkabout for a few days since it was reported here but pulling in some favours and checking a fair few images of parcels as they travel along the pipeline of driver, depot, transport and hub we found where it had ended up.
It'd been through a few hands at this point and opened for whatever reason (security top of that list - cant have unknown packages appear seemingly out of nowhere) but with the threat of an angry northern grumpy sod driving down to Birmingham with a big stick - an alert was put on it with pain of death/made to watch Love Island if anything happened to it.
Not something that happens every day (a fully labelled competing courier's package being collected) but procedures may change (saying that, what should have happened is the driver scans a collection and if there are more parcels to collect than stated this is flagged as an unknown parcel and should go through the options of asking where its going and then having a temporary collection barcode assigned to it with the receipt portion given to the customer. "Other People" have touched my code in the past couple of years so I cant say what it now does. Or doest. It was farmed out to others, "for reasons".
That didnt seem to happen and from that point on was untrackable as it just didnt exist - not lost as such as shouldnt have been there in the first place.
In related news I'll be back working with the group (although the Irish side of the business with some lovely people I've worked with for 20 years and not seen in person for maybe 10. Everyones got so old (not me, I'm still 32. In my mind)
Glad this one turned out ok and I've had squeaky bum time myself in the past when sending a watch.
Well done.
Your next task - my 20 litres of farm cider that they have had since last Christmas. About 2ft x 1ft x 1ft, and maybe 40lb weight.
It's in there somewhere.
Great news, must be a huge relief. Well done to the member that helped.
Although this thread would be a hard read for anyone who works collecting/processing mail, given the apparent vitriol that's out there against them.
Really pleased that you had a good outcome. I admit I was expecting the worst on this one.
Great outcome - pleased for you Robin, and kudos to Coot.
Are you keeping it now?
Lovely to read your post Coot.
Wow- you wrote their code. That’s impressive.
