I like that, great proportions but agree at that money the movement is disappointing.
Looks great but why the low grade movement and why is it a limited edition?

not bad, but not as nice as the 017 or the 37 imo..
Nice looking watch - case back also a great copy.
But you could easily buy a very decent original 6217-8001 for the same / less.
Looks great but the price is way over ... the BB58/54 offer a better watch in that price range.
Very nice, almost there but price......
How much???
I wouldn’t say the 6L is a low grade movement. I think I prefer this (on paper) to the SLA017. It’s difficult to justify it over a Tudor though.
Lovely looking watch, but I don't know what Seiko management is smoking with a 6-grade movement (which isn't exactly stunning) at that price point.
Edited to add:
I originally read this as being a 6R, but it's a 6L which is supposedly improved, however I'm still unconvinced that it's worth the money they're asking.

Nice.....but overpriced, but as always it will sell out immediately.
Too expensive and movement not good enough for the price.
Seiko really do love to make a limited edition and then shaft the people who buy it.
Completely overpriced. I can't afford it at present. Seiko taking the p*ss.
Now off to pre-order it
Movement is the only issue for me as that is gorgeous. Sorely tempted to get one.
It just shows how much better it looks without the X type symbol on the dial especially with re issues.
£3180 UK price, pre ordering now. Chisholm Hunter only getting 2 in the UK
I'd be surprised if there was any discount on these but if you don't ask you don't get!
Been waiting decades for that watch, but not at £3K.
Seiko have gone completely doolally-tap in the last few years. And so have their punters.
Classic Seiko: snatching defeat from the jaws of victory - some really worthwhile features, completely undone by second-rate movement and p-take pricing.
...And, for me, their perpetual resistance to using a ceramic bezel insert is another nail in the coffin - PVD scratches nearly as easily as anodised aluminium IME, and sits poorly alongside the hardened-steel case and sapphire crystal in the longevity stakes.
All sold out at London Seiko Boutique, reserve list only now
Nobody spotted that stupid lume dot at 3 o’clock? Seiko you are allowed to ignore ISO specs on 62MAS recreations.
I understand in some regards, but the movement definitely isn’t second-rate. 6L35 has only been used in a couple of the LE Presages, but is the basis for several Credor movements - uncommon it maybe, but second-rate I would not say. It’s not an ‘8L-XX’ movement certainly, bit I wouldn’t say it was the ginger stepchild of the range.
I really like it and am tempted, but as lovely as it is I know I’d long for a coloured bezel
and hand like (your!) SLA043. I have too many dark-faced watches and want a bit more vibrancy.
Typical of the watch world - if something actually looks right and is the right size, limit the run and charge a fortune. Meaning most watches are sort of deliberately wrong.
I wonder sometimes if there are a couple of execs at Seiko HQ with a wager on how much they can get a bunch of suckers to pay for a misaligned bezel or chapter ring.

Seiko Fans ' we want a diver's watch that's less than 40mm wide and less than 13mm thick'
Seiko 'Et voila!'
Seiko fans 'three grand I'm out!'
Seiko fans 2 years later 'ah this is actually the proper reissue, even more so than the SLA017, guess I'll pay the £6k ebay asking then'
It would be interesting to revisit this thread in a year or so & see how many "Won't buy" became buyers.....
Completely agree.
This is why enthusiasts are the worse bunch to listen to; same in the car world!
I reckon like the SLA017/037/043 there’ll be a flurry of interest initially, then a few that hang around dealers for a while before being reduced. Then a quiet year or two before they climb quite significantly.
If it's was a dark black dial I would be all over this release

Some rationale re the use of the movement - remember it is an upgraded version of the 6 series movement but the main reason for using this instead of the 8 series is they couldn't make the watch as thin as it is with an 8 series movement hence the new version of the 6 series. But it is upgraded from the existing 6 series so a like for like comparison can't be made with what is in the £1k divers.
One left to pre order here if anyone is struggling to locate one

I don’t like it, but others clearly do which is fine.

Wanted - Damasko DC57
Really looks the part but I am glad I recently bought an original for a lot less money.
Pleasant enough watch, mad price. I’m sure there are enough obsessive WIS worldwide to mop them up though.

It’s nice but for the same / similar money you are able to buy an original
I know what I would prefer.
I think it looks beautiful. However, 38mm for a diver is a tad too small and the price is not reasonable.
Original size is too small then :)
Might make it a truer re-release, but not a great size for a diver today imho.

Seiko UK have informed me that the UK and Ireland will be only receiving 29 of these watches, out of the 1965.
I'm betting that there will be more than 29 people who want to buy this watch!
I kind of hate myself for feeding the hype by starting this thread but it seems like this one will sell-out before it even hits the shops.
