Hi guys
My son who is 4 wants an RC car. He’d also like to build it. Anyone done anything similar who can offer advice, suggestions or a good place to look for these online?
Thanks in advance

Tamiya anything pretty much.
I would expect social services will have an issue with that. You should use a kit in the traditional way and not try skimping using a child.
And a slightly more helpful response, these people do a range of kits in various stages of pre-built components. Make sure the radio frequencies are permitted for your geography.

In my experience, it would be better to buy a model already built. Enjoy it for a bit, then when he (or more likely you) stoves it into a tree and it needs fixing, you can take apart together and "upgrade" with anodised parts etc., learning at each point what the bits do. And there will be plenty of times this happens.
I can thoroughly recommend modelsports as Ryan said. The FTX carnage range with brushless motor is good value for its durability, get a few batteries.
Tamiya models are great fun but they are still predominantly plastic suspension parts out the build box... and well... a 4 year old...
Sounds great and something I was thinking of getting for my just coming up to five year old grandson. I like the idea of a small camera of some sort mounted on it so that he could steer first person. Can anyone suggest such a setup please?
Tamiya is too difficult for a 4yr old to have any interest.
I know, as I have a quarter-built grasshopper in the loft awaiting him, for when he has a few more years, and the needed attention and dexterity.
As said, get something RTR and just enjoy it with him for a bit.
He can put the batteries in and out/take the shell on and off etc., and that should be enough.

You could semi-deconstruct one - wheels off, and a few simple components - and box it back up. Make him feel involved putting it together, and racing that day.
Tamiya will take days and days of your time. I expect he would get bored.

I built Tamiya RC cars first with my then 4-5 year old daughter and then later with my 10 and 8 year old sons. Both were too difficult and although I oversaw I ended up doing the builds, the kids just wanted a completed car as soon as.
Both now sit on top of the old piano which my daughter never ever bothered to learn to play
I’ll take the Impreza one! Ha ha
