SAS Rogue Heroes, a bit lairy and not sure how historically accurate it is but really good fun. If you have any interest in the subject material and that time in history then you will most likely enjoy this.

Anyone watching The English? I fancy watching it.
Finished BBC's SAS Rogue Heroes yesterday. Thought it was really good. Pretty much true (more or less) if you read up on it. Also 4K/HLG/HDR which is excellent if your tv supports that on iPlayer
Severance on Apple TV, I thought it was excellent

Started "The Old Man" on Disney+ a few days ago - 4 episodes and it's quite good. I've always liked Jeff Bridges, so I think that helps.
I’m 3 episodes into “the devils hour” on Amazon. Really very good so far.
New series of White Locus has appeared on Now TV, very watchable!
Enjoyed both chestnut man and arctic circle- both scandi thrillers
After being a bit disappointed with the first one definitely preferred the second episode. I still feel the swearing isn't really appropriate for the time, 40's.
My Father claimed he was a steely-eyed killer of Japs in Burma with the Chindits but I once saw him chase a kid on a bike - nearly caught him - who called him a 'silly old c*nt' for crossing the road without looking. Context is everything.
SAS rouge hero’s. Best thing on BBC for ages.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Another one for SAS Rogue Heroes. I've just watched the 5th episode tonight.
Again not sure about historical accuracies but it's entertaining. Great cast from Sex Education and GoT fame but Jack O'Connell has been my favourite.
A lot of the stuff regarding Mayne and Lewis seems to be pretty accurate. They also seems to have dialled down Stirling, who was also madder than a box of frogs.
History would suggest that the BBC has been provided enough material for at least another 5 seasons. Including Sterling’s time in Colditz and the introduction of Sterling’s Brother Bill.
What an amazing family.

Anyone watching Andor the star wars spin off? I'm halfway through and really enjoying it.
It's more like a war film than sci fi. Think Kelly's Hero's in space but without the comedy.
I really enjoyed Andor as well, best of the Star Wars spin offs I’d say.
The Bear on Disney + is great, brilliantly performed and well scripted.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities , individual short horror storys (from books) - worth a watch.
Anyone watched Massiah on Netflix?
Just finished watching it, well worth a look I think.
Can't believe it but the BBC have created a masterpiece with SAS Rogue Heroes, first 2 episodes watched and I'm hooked.
I watched a couple of episodes of SAS rogue heroes.
Alfie Allen as Jock Lewes...............
You can clearly see it was written by the Peaky Blinders bloke with his usual addition of modern rock music to pep things up a bit.
The trouble with "faction" is that many people will believe it as gospel
Won't be watching any more.
Cheers,
Neil.
We watch every Scandi noir , new series Deadwind is excellent, all 3 series have been

Caught episode 1 of the English...I really like it, so far, the missus not at all but then I reckon she's kinda phobic on 'Westerns', so there's that. Plus I've been deep into that territory in literature lately...Lonesome Dove. Blood Meridian,...so I'm primed baby,,,for a real hi quality western redux.
Kickback on Amazon Prime, it’s a documentary about The FIFA corruption investigated by Andrew Jennings, it’s absolutely mind blowing how much corruption went on in FIFA and this guy was at the heart of unravelling it.
A very good watch…

Anyone watched 1899 on Netters yet?

The English is very good. Violent, bloody but compelling. Story is rambling but stay with it, it all comes together in a (mostly) satisfying way.
Excellent. Star Wars for adults.
The scenes in Niamos were filmed just north of Blackpool on a part of the promenade which is perfect for urban mountain biking.

Just finished the end of Doc Martin and enjoyed the last season (xmas special still to come). Finished off nicely
Started S5 of the Handmaid's Tale - only 1 episode in, so early days
SAS Rogue Heroes has had several mentions and comments, both laudatory and otherwise. Here is a link to Antony Beevor's review in the Guardian. From which:
...Rogue Heroes, we soon find, is closer to rock-star history – and yet, so enjoyably gung-ho is this adaptation, the anachronism proves irresistible.
I had given up hope of ever seeing another second world war series or movie that did not have me grinding my teeth in irritation at unnecessary historical mistakes. Worst of all are the deceitful rewrites, changing characters and events in vital ways yet still claiming some sort of authenticity, such as the unforgivably distorted film The Imitation Game, in which Benedict Cumberbatch plays legendary codebreaker Alan Turing.
Knight has of course taken liberties with the precise record, but they are mainly additions, fleshing out characters and context, not distortions. He invents a love affair between Stirling and a beautiful young French intelligence officer, but it does not jar. In the opening credits, Rogue Heroes proclaims: “Based on a true story, the events depicted which seem most unbelievable … are mostly true.” Although tongue in cheek, this feels necessary, as the origins of this rogue regiment certainly defy belief...
My own view? A very good series for its entertainment value and for being an introduction to an extraordinary facet of military history. While there is much licence taken to make multiple diverse episodes and characters fit into a limited space, I don't think they went too far. Rather it's best to take it for what it is and to realise that there is plenty of other material out there if you feel like researching the historical truth or the most usual characters involved.
Resident Evil, Netflix, 8 parts, following from the T virus originals.
Re previous posts:
We started 1899, Lin likes it but a bit too obscure and noir for me.
Loving The English, big fan of the Blunt since Sicario.
I agree with comments about Rogue Heroes re music and re-writing history but still enjoying it. I was watching Tobruk today with mention of the LRDG, totally different context of course.
We watched Tokyo Vice last night and very impressed. Even more so that it was not a BBC Studios production.
