Very surprised that I’m the first to mention Bill Withers live at Carnegie hall
couple of my favourites already got a mention; Motorhead, No Sleep till Hammersmith and Hawkwind , Space Ritual..
I see Neil Young 'Rust never Sleeps' gets a mention but my favourite Neil Young live disc is 'Live at the cellar door'
really sounds like you are in small venue listening to him right in front of you..
Very surprised that I’m the first to mention Bill Withers live at Carnegie hall
Some of my favourites
Depeche Mode - 101
Frampton Comes Alive
Counting Crows at Heineken hall
Irish Tour '74
Mr Rory Gallagher
(now a million miles away, unfortunately)
The movie came out when I was a student, and already a fan. I could not find anyone to go with me to see it, and it was only on at an art house cinema in Birmingham. I went even though I knew it finished before my last train home, and consequently I spent the night “sleeping” rough in News Street Station. Many years later I bought the CD and then the DVD, and I ripped the DVD so I could listen to the extra tracks.
A great album and an even better movie.
Neil Young - Weld
The Clash - From here to eternity
Spunk - Sex pistols
Cheers,
Neil.
Thin Lizzy, Live and Dangerous.
Great shout out. I saw them in January 1979 at the Chelmsford Odeon on this tour. Schenker had left/been sacked from the band a few weeks earlier, it was us fans introduction to Paul 'Tonka' Chapman, who was an amazing player. It is said that Tonka played the over dubs on Strangers in the night?
At the height of punk, UFO still commanded a huge following. Sadly Tonka, Raymond and Way have left us now, but such a fine band in the 1970's!
For me it has to be Stupidity - Dr Feelgood. The hardest working band of the 70/80/90's. The combination of Wilko's mad staccato rhythm and Lee Brilleaux's over the top exuberance and sheer showmanship saw this album at number 1. Led Zeppelins favourite band at the time, saw them play at Zeppelins end of tour party after Earls Court!
A few already mentioned and adding Cheap Trick at Budokan.
Two of my favourites....
Deep Purple - Concerto for Group and Orchestra, live at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Shows off Jon Lord's talents to the full as he composed it.
Pink Floyd - Pulse. The LED on my CD copy still pulses, but I have to put the battery in the opposite way to that shown on the battery holder, strange.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
Tonka was a great guitarist but not a patch on Schenker. Listen to the solos on Love to Love on Strangers in the Night and Live in Oxford for the comparison.
Saw UFO with Schenker in 1978 incredible! And Paul Raymond with his right hand Les Paul Junior played upside down as a left hooker

A couple that are perennially on my playlist;
Iron Maiden - Live after Death - I remember receiving this on cassette together with a Walkman one Christmas, probably not far off 40 years ago. Made a big impression and still sounds epic now.
Alison Krause & Union Station - Live - Another one that made a big impression, only 20 years ago this time.
Interesting to realise how my tastes have developed over the years.
Oh, I can’t pass up the opportunity to also mention Cardiacs - Live, and Muse - Haarp. Jeez, there are just too many...
Metallica - S&M
Metallica playing with the San Francisco orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen.

Oh yes. Fools Overture …. Try and keep to the speed limit when that’s on in the car
Showing my age but Genesis Three Sides Live takes me back to a good place

Lots of good ones out there. Fleetwood Mac Boston Tea Party is up there.
Most of my favourites have been mentioned... Alchemy, S&M, Live after Death, Last Waltz, San Quentin etc
I'll add:
Roxy & Elsewhere / The Best Band you never Heard in your life - Frank Zappa (can't decide which)
How the West was Won - Led Zeppelin (a better album than The Song Remains the Same from the same tour I think)
Where the Light Is - John Mayer (a bit divisive but I love this album.... three concerts in one)
I saw them twice at their peak, late 1975 at the Liverpool Stadium, which was a small boxing venue and then again in early 1976 when they had progressed to the Liverpool Empire. Great concerts and manic raw rock n roll from a group I didn’t really know at the time, but turned out to be a great time to see them.
Absolutely Live - Rod Stewart
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
Another vote for Alchemy, Dire Straits. Especially ‘Tunnel of Love’.
Also anything live from Lynyrd Skynyrd in the 70’s before the plane crash, Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb Live from Pompei, Thin Lizzy Live & Dangerous.
Dire Straits - Alchemy
The Seldom Seen Kid - Live at Abbey Road
Buena Vista Social Club - At Carnegie Hall
Lizzy Live
Live after death - Iron Maiden
Retrospect - Epica
Can't believe no-one has mentioned Jimi!
Dylan Live 1966 Albert Hall is my all time favourite.
Two albums of live performances as well.
Zappa - Guitar. Watermelon in Easter Hay wowsers.
Nirvana - From the muddy banks of the wishkah. Powerful raw performances.
Some great choices already.
I watched Stop Making Sense on the big TV with the soundbar up as far as I could get away with on Saturday night.
And I grew up on most of the rock ones.
Can I add Entreat by The Cure to the list?
My two favourites have already had a mention:
Paul Weller - Live Wood
Neil Young - Live Rust 'my guitar, my guitar!'
Did somebody mention Weld already?
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
How could I forget Weld.
That was the tour with Sonic Youth when they really cranked up the volume/distortion...if you watch the video on Youtube there are some dazed faces in the audience 🤣
I seem to remember reading Young ended up damaging his hearing on the tour...
Couple of others mentioned I forgot about:
Depeche Mode - 101
and of course
Ramones - It's alive (I wasn't there but saw them at the Lyceum a few years later, they were brilliant!)
The Angels - Live Line - Aussie classic!
Dire Straits - Alchemy
Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore East
Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Live From the Middle East
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
Cold Chisel - Last Stand
Midnight Oil - Scream in Blue
Jimmy Barnes - Barnestorming
AC/DC - If You Want Blood...
Van Morrison - It's Too Late to Stop Now
The Jam - Dig the New Breed
Marillion - The Thieving Magpie
Thin Lizzy - Live & Dangerous
Rolling Stones - Stripped + Rock n' Roll Circus
Bob Marley - Live at the Rainbow
Lynyrd Skynyrd - One From he Road
Rainbow - Live On Stage
Rush - Exit Stage Left
Steve Earle - Shut Up & Die Like an Aviator
Queen - Live Killers + Rock Montreal
Deep Purple - Live in Japan
As a student I worked in the big Tower Records store in Piccadilly Circus so I got exposed to a wide range of music...
I'm lucky to have looked after Barnesy when he did a signing at Tower Records, I've seen him 3 times in London, plus Ian Moss & Cold Chisel once each. If you like Cold Chisel I think you'll like the Angels too, roughly contemporary to Chisel, came up via Vanda & Young like AC/DC & Rose Tattoo.
A bit left field but Collosseum Live (c 1971 if my memory serves) a great double album, Lost Angeles and Rope ladder to the Moon standout tracks when the band were at the peak of their powers. Cheers,John B4
Bob Marley and the Wailers, Live at the Lyceum, and any of the live versions of Like a Hurricane.
Honourable mention for Black Rebel live in Berlin.
Simple Minds- Live in the City of Light
Genesis - Seconds Out
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous

A bit "left field", but Ralph Towner "Solo Concert".... fabulous guitar playing IMHO.
A
Another left field to add to the list Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart - Amsterdam
Taster here for those unfamiliar - powerful interpretation of the Etta James song

UK Subs - Crash Course.
Live at the Rainbow - 1980
Me too (both nights)!
Best live group I’ve ever seen bar none.
Gabba Gabba Hey!

David Bowie - Live 1974 with the Spiders, Woody, Ronson and Bolder
Another shout for Strangers in the Night.
And, Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East. Also check out them playing the US Festival in 1983 (on YT) I think - just incredible live.
Another one I’ve remembered from a misspent youth.
Uriah Heep - Live 1973
The version of Sweet Lorraine is quite the thing.
