Keep them open if people want to Work and Shop.
If you want to mark your respects do it.
Of course shops and businesses are allowed to open BTW.
With Monday 19th September now being deemed a Bank Holiday - whereby shops and business's are allowed to open.
I hope and pray that all shops and business's - apart from Emergency and Essential services will remain closed.
Not only as a mark of respect to Her Majesty the Queen, who dedicated 70 years and 214 days to not only this country but the Commonwealth.
But so everyone can come together and pay their respect on a day of National Mourning.
Keep them open if people want to Work and Shop.
If you want to mark your respects do it.
Of course shops and businesses are allowed to open BTW.
The Bank Holiday decision allows people to make their own minds up and that is the right decision.
I doubt there will be much activity at the time of the actual funeral, but to restrict what the population does for a whole 24 hours wouldn't be the right thing to do.
I think it’s the right decision
I’m gonna open my shop. But also I’ll
Pay my respects to the queen
God bless

If the Royal Family are happy to compensate every business and worker for a day's loss of earnings, then yes, they should close. Otherwise, crack on.
I'll be enjoying a bonus day off with family, probably walking somewhere in the rain, and avoiding all TV and radio.
Might spend a few hours Christmas shopping in Poundland.
But what about those who are made to work by their employers.
Are they also not entitled to pay their respect, if they wish?
Schools will be closed so I won't be working next Monday (although I'll be teaching my regular private pupils later on). I'd be more annoyed but I'm in the middle of a crazy busy period so I'm actually pleased for the time off.
Anybody know what's happening in NHS hospitals, specifically scheduled surgery, including surgery for cancer?
Looks like more and more businesses are going to close on the day - I think some of them are feeling the public "mood" before deciding on what to do; seems more are in favour of closing...

I work in an NHS hospital so waiting to find that out! In the organisations I work for, nothing has been decided (or at least communicated) today. Obviously emergency services will be at work as usual but either services will be like a normal bank holiday (such as New Years Day) or run normally is my expectation. If the former then it is likely non urgent surgery (that which can wait more than 24 hours) will be cancelled, if the latter, all surgery should go ahead.
Interested to know what’s happening in other hospitals, unfortunately today, received notice of cancellation of Monday surgery. No alternative date offered. Not me, but immediate family member. Stunned.

Monday is first day of freshers week for university students. I bet they are glad the uni bar will be closed, so they can sit in their 10 ft square room in uni halls and silently pay their respects.

Don't just do something, sit there. - TNH
My daughter’s school trip is still going ahead with pick up at 9am Monday even though the rest of the school will be shut!
cancelled my clinic on monday and all other outpatients clinics and elective surgery, apparently the public have been kicking off on facebook, dont blame them to be fair, I was willing to see my ten patients and hopefully speed up there treatment, nevermind. Off for a walk on monday, will leave the wife at home in front of TV
So the answer in the end was the solution was fudged. Basically emergency services running, staff who “volunteer” can work as usual to keep some clinics and lists running but the expectation is most activity which is not an emergency will be off.
I reviewed the patients I was due to see on Monday and prioritised the more urgent ones into new slots and the others will be rearranged. This was on the basis that travel to and from work will be difficult on Monday, we likely won’t have a lot of support staff as many will choose to be off and a number patients may choose not to attend due to travel/wanting to watch the funeral.
I will be at work, options at work are either an unpaid day off, use a holiday or come in.
Is it not a free holiday? Ie not off your allowance
As a small business owner I think closure will be the norm
It will be akin to Easter Sunday . A good time to spend with family irrespective of personal views on the royal family. Win win in my book.

One must expect disruption during the mother of all grief fests.
Being retired, it makes no difference to me, it’ll be just another non- working day!
I’ll probably watch the actual service but that’s all, I feel no compulsion to watch the inevitable blanket TV coverage.

Given that it has been declared a public holiday as well as the enormity of the event I'd think that most business will grant their staff a free day off where possible. To not offer that could come across as a touch FU, in my opinion anyway.
Where I work we've all been given an additional shift's paid leave.
Business as usual at my NHS Trust (I work in anaesthetics). All elective procedures going ahead. Quite right too.
I’m sure the Queen would not have wanted peoples surgeries cancelled.
I'll be working
Golf club is closed anyhow so might as well earn a corn as opposed to watching a funeral
My staff will be in too.
I’ll be working
I don’t think the Queen rated slackers ;)))))

Funerals are being cancelled because of the Bank Holiday.
You can’t make it up.
It's like Covid all over again.
