Just a short run today…… after 3,500miles on my S1000XR - it takes a bit getting used to again.

2005/06 ? That swing arm looks so trick today. Lovely looking bike.

Thanks! Yes, 2006 Anniversary model with added 'oomph'.

    Dymag Carbon Fibre wheels
    Galfer discs/pads
Ohlins Road & Track forks with superbike cartridges.
    Ohlins fully adjustable shock
    Power Commander 3
    Velocity Stacks (for midrange)
Two Brothers cans (not bothered about more power)

Just wish it had traction control, and maybe ABS........................

    Lovely bike!

Cue those people who say you don't need TC or ABS...

I've had powerful sportsbikes without TC and ABS (RC8R, Gsxr750). I much prefer the comfort of having both aids available to me.

It helps keep me relaxed if I get caught in the rain, and it comes in handy when on track and trying to push yourself a little harder.

For a non sportsbike, i don't believe either to be necessary, but if you want to push on in sub optimal conditions, it is a potential lifesaver

Not sure what consumption averages out at - but I don't think any litre bike is as bad as the MT10. I don't know what Yamaha did to make it so poor.

Big boss comes in this morning and tells me he's really worried as it looks like his H2 SX is running low on oil; it was only serviced recently and there's no oil in the sight glass.

"At the risk of asking a stupid question" says I, "did you check it with the bike upright or on the side stand?"

I refrained from calling him a twat, and instead took him outside and got him to stand the bike upright. As if by magic, oil appeared!

I'm not a Yam-man, but that 05/06 Anniversary was one of the best R1s.

Yep - the front subframe and cam covers on the 1098R are magnesium too. Non-load bearing is generally fine, but load bearing mags are a different story! Magnesium porosity is one of the reasons why 916SPS also don't get ridden much now if their owners have not x-rayed their mags.

Just curious, what aspects of that bike required re-familiarisation compared to the S1000?

Posture, bar width, brake effort, lack of quickshifter on downshifts…………………

As I mentioned- I had done 3,500 miles exclusively on the XR.

Replacement engine fitted and all seems good, got 3 weeks warranty remaining so hopefully some decent weather to allow some "testing" - never broken an engine on a road bike before and seems just very unlucky, whilst a known potential issue for the 2008 engines its still only a very small handful that have actually gone on to let go, nearly all are perfectly fine.

R1250 GSA is going. Miss a v-twin and more importantly a Ducati, and the road noise from the BMW. Is horrendous!

Seemed logical to move on to the Multistrada, but luckily logic has never been my strong suit.

Arriving next week with a termignoni to guarantee reduced road noise!

That riding with Enoch has done you good. Fantastic bike and will certainly vanquish the sound of the Annakees? On the GS. Does Andrew have any farkles left from his last/ current one.

Fantastic bikes. To be honest, if they were a bit more suitable for city centre riding I'd be on a 1260S right now.

See how you get on with it, but the one thing I hated was the handlebars.. much to wide, and a bit to low…. The solution was to fit the bars from the normal Diavel 1260… I have a spare set if you feel you’d like to try them..😎

Before this one I had this one

And before that one I had this one… so I’d say yes it ticks the boxes for me..

Have you ridden it yet? If not I think you may be shocked at how quick they are.. I had the Rocket 3 and the XD would leave it for dead.

Yes, it was brutal and major grin factor, but at the time had the Diavel so dismissed it. Having gone down the Custom bobber route for the last 3 years and not loving my current GS, it suddenly all makes sense lol.

    Can’t wait!

As a result of baking my brains out and then reading this, I've now spent a week with the Knox Honister.

Yeah, it felt a bit expensive at first...

    ...But I love it.

And it really is a different riding experience altogether.

It's a snug fit, and reminds me of wearing a wetsuit.

Unlike a wetsuit, the material is very breathable and when you're moving the cool air is delicious.

    Especially on the arms.

It gives off a very secure feeling when riding.

But it might not be for you if you're not into feeling swaddled.

    And it's AAA rated.

I also love how it's part of Knox's 'Seasonless' collection.

    Which makes so much sense.

Just wish I'd come across it before buying so much riding gear =)

    Anyway...

...I'm a medium according to Knox's sizing chart.

And whilst the medium was okay in the chest, it was too short for my monkey arms.

A swap for a large took care of this.

So, that's summer riding taken care of and when autumn and winter come along I can simply put layers/waterproofs on top of it.

    Cushty!

Excellent stuff. I felt quite safe recommending it as it really is a wonderful piece of kit. Like you, it would have saved me a few jackets too had I come across it sooner.

Shorter wheelbase on the SF and more aggressive rake. Why its a wheelie monster and an animal on country roads

A fantastic trio you have there! My R is closer to the SF than you might think on first glance: it is fitted with Helibars which make a significant improvement to the ergos.

It is actually the opposite: the swingarm on the SF is longer than on the superbikes. The SF rake is increased, further accentuating the longer wheelbase. A number of superbike owners have, in the past, looked to swap the SF swingarm onto the superbike.

    Oh dear...

I seem to have bought a Harley. A 2020 Stage 2 Sport Glide, actually, with a load of useful extras/mods and following a good few hours out on a demo to make sure I really like it.

The stock engine - a Milwaukee Eight 107 - is 1750cc, producing 92.5 HP and torque of around 150NM. The Stage 2 (which costs about £2.5k as an option) adds between 25-30% HP and boosts torque by some 10-15%. In other words, the bike is an absolute beast.

It should be with me in a week or so, after the PDI. However, its just been serviced, had two new tyres fitted and been to Freddy Trott for a full valet, ceramic coating and ACF-50 treatment.

    So excited!

Replacement. The Tiger was an incredible bike, but I never really drooled when I looked at it. My previous couple of bikes were the opposite, and this new one's a real looker again.

Very nice Tony, looks good on you.

It’s certainly been a journey since your opening post on this excellent thread.

Looking forward to seeing some pics once you have it.

Love it Tony. I've been watching 'Million Dollar Bogans' Harley tours on YouTube recently and can see the Harley appeal!

    More bike related stuff

Just when things felt like they were getting on an even keel after a rotten 12 months, I’ve had some more horrible news regarding a close family member.

It’s got me thinking about things, as it does and I’m reassessing a few things and I’m pretty sure I’m going to focus more on things I want to do now, rather than later and I’m pretty sure that could mean a bike again, life’s just too short and I’m not sure just what I’m waiting for.

My scope isn’t huge as Mrs C does like to ride pillion, so I do have to consider her wants and needs as well.

I’m leaning very heavily to one of these, I’ve done the usual reading and watching reviews etc but if anyone has any real world feedback, I would love to hear it?
