Far too close to a trolley bay for my liking there!
If that was my car I wouldn't even be in the Beaumontleys Tesco car park.
I’m only happy parking our smart 453 for shopping. Seeing the way people treat trolleys and cara aligning to lines fills me with fear.
We have an E type at out local Waitrose that is taken on a Saturday shopping run. I cringe seeing it parked up. Guess that is proper wealth not having to worry!
Sometime back I was in the car park and a driver came in, hit the corner of the car on the left, reversed back and as she drove forward hit the corner of the car on the right, reversed back and drove in and tapped the car on the rear at the front, got out and walked off to shop presumably.
Can't recall whether I have shared this perfection of the art...

Quite right, I stand corrected and will ad it to a thread which had passed me by. Always a bit scared to look at BP!!
That really is taking it too far but not sure fines are ever imposed. With less police and what there are being over stretched the chances of getting pulled for a number plate offence is small.
Can’t remember the last time I saw a late Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren with a front number plate. Seems they are not required on supercars any more.
Confiscating the registration should suffice.
That BRUV certainly shows ingenuity though, never seen 2 characters used like that before.
2 maybe 3 years ago I was stopped behind a car being pulled over, whilst stopped Officer approached me and waved me to the side, checked my plates closely and asked if I knew they were illegal, hands up officer yes , it’s motorcycle font, all else ok, I was told to get them changed and that he would be checking up, seems his uncle stays near me, I was informed that if caught out again the plate would be forfeit, all friendly and informal but serious, home and plates off, ah well, they were on the car for several years and passed mots a few times. Just unfortunate I guess.
Looked hard at that, just what was the original plate?
I'm working on the basis that it's E3 RUV, which is interesting as the DVLA aren't showing it as being on a car, so either I'm wrong about the plate, or it's on retention, or... cancelled by the DVLA for illegal character placement :-)

It’s definitely E3 RUV, did a search and found it mentioned in Twitter a few years ago in the same white Golf.

A company called CarReg based in Wolverhampton has just sold a plate for me. I think I paid £399 for it originally, £400 was deposited in my account this week which I'm happy with.

They definitely do get stopped for this reason (sometimes, at least). I've seen it happen to a McLaren in Cricklewood, NW London.

I see so many illegal plates (mostly minor spacing issues etc), I can't help but wonder how much revenue the police could generate by putting dedicated resource on this for a wedge of time. I have a feeling that operation would easily wash it's own face and be a tidy earner to fund more important police activity.

Or because there are so many and I imagine often the DVLA know what is going to happen to number plates and spacing why don't they charge extra at the time of purchase if the purchaser advisers what they are going to do with it and then its recorded and the government make more money off of us ? :)

I remember Y110NNE being sold at a dvla auction and fetching over £10k.
The DVLA knew exactly what was going to happen to the two 1s!
Considering that a) the money doesn't go to the police and b) most plates would probably be dealt with via a voluntary rectification (VDRS) rather than fines anyway, this is a no go.... l
Personally I wouldn't be a fan of this approach. An element of uniformity is a positive thing IMO, people shouldn't be misrepresenting spacing, they should stick to the size requirements and use a licences plate manufacturer etc. Just in my opinion of course.
Out of interest, what do you think would happen to the 1's? I'm assuming the plate is mirroring the name Yevonne, but I struggle to see how the 1's could become an EV! That said, even as it's written it's pretty clear so it's a good plate. No doubt the spacing wasn't followed by the buyer though, as Y11 0NNE completely loses the recognition factor IMO.

I believe the fine for illegal plates is £100 but can rise £1000 or at worst vehicle confiscation.

As an officer of the law once asked me when suggesting that I rectify a somewhat illegal number plate [1] on my motorbike...
"If you or your family were the victim of a hit and run, would you like witnesses to be able to easily read the plate of the vehicle involved?"
I had to admit that I'd prefer it if they were able to.
