Interesting. Gunpowder, fireworks, the striking strip on a used pack of swan vestas. Under that some sweetness and pear halves from a tin.
That said, a couple of days after opening I came down with Covid so my palate might have been off. Haven’t tried it again yet as after having a really mild dose 5 weeks ago I got it again this week a lot worse so my malt stocks have been out of bounds.

I just wish they'd cut down on their use of colouring. Some of theirs approach Dalmore levels of fake tan!
I'm aware of Dalmore's rep though I'm new to Arbelour, the one above is my first. Given its relatively pale colour (no sherry in this one and it's NAS so doubt it's that old) and "straight from the cask" statement I'm pretty sure it's sans augmentation, if others have been fiddled with that would be a shame. I get why it's done, also can't help but think it's cheap sales tactic that pulls the wool over the eyes of the punter.

Ah, just opened up the related link, I'd heard of the NFT release however I didn't twig that was it. Does sound extremely intriguing though I'm guessing few bottles will ever actually be drunk.
From what I understood, if you actually want to get the whisky, you no longer have the £2400 NFT as that's what you trade in for the whisky?
Ardbeg seem to be the Omega of the whisky world with their endless special editions, but so much of their core range is NAS that it feels like they're selling their whisky before they have time to see what it develops into.
To be honest I don't fully understand the NFT thing, I'm sure that with a quick Google I'll work it out properly though if it was all kept to pounds and pence it'll be a lot simpler... It does smack of a marketing stunt regardless, that in itself is enough to put me off even if I had the funds to get involved.
Fair point ref most of their offerings being NAS though both the Corry and Oogie are truly (IMO) great expressions and are popular all around. When I was there in 2019 they were in the process of installing new stills, maybe in the coming years we'll see an increase in their age statement options.

Tried it last night. Perfectly decent and would describe it as honey and subtle which is a bit of a bland description. I do not think I would pay the price myself for this ie it is not that special.
I would jump on a Glendronach 18 at slightly lower price point for a far more complex and interesting dram

These days I'm pretty much a sherry cask drinker. I just love the sweetness off it, but seeing this in the store piqued my interest.
I've tried most of the Glenfiddich range before moving on to predominantly Speyside, so I'd missed this one all together. Living out in the sticks in Vietnam also doesn't help. Oak casks don't generally appeal to me these days as they (for me) are a bit too harsh, or bitter, or whatever you want to call it.
This 23 year old is initially oak casked (although there are some reports that this is also matured in sherry casks, but the colour to me says not) and then finished in a French cuvee casks.
The result? Well, it's absolutely sublime. I'm terrible at tasting notes, and everyones palate differs, but it just oozes custard, vanilla and fruits. It's so velvety smooth.
A base level 40% at a high price point, but wow, what a drink!
No idea what it’s like, but I picked up this from NC last week. (When I travel I like to try the local stuff that we can’t get back in the uk.)
I’’ll update once I’ve had a taster.

The prices for a single measure in some Temple Bar establishments were eye watering !
Obviously a tourist money spinner but there were no shortage of customers.
I picked up a bottle of Bushmills 16 yo at the airport for £77

Just on the off chance, has anyone had any experience of selling individual bottles through someone like the whisky exchange? I've a couple of bottles of 1995 18yo Macallen sherry cask and its crazy money to buy so thought I might see what I'd get offered.

Recently had a tour of the English Whisky Distillery in Norfolk. Whilst the tour was interesting this is a new(ish) set up and therfore doesn't have the history of some of the Scottish ones. There was a tasting of three of their products but it was very quiet there midweek and I was offered more samples of their range, well twelve tots later this obvoiusly worked as we came away (wifey was driving) with a couple of their whiskies and a few bits and bobs and repaired to The Angel in Larling for lunch. I'd recommend this tour as long as you don't expect 25yo tastings. Cheers, John B4

How is that Statesman neat? I've only had it made up as an old fashioned.
Compared to whisky I have few reference points for this one, I only have one other bourbon on the shelves and that's the std Woddford Reserve. Between the two and others I've tried I'd say it's the best of the lot, the only reason why I may not buy again is simply to try another brand/distillery - other than that I'd happily keep a space reserved for it.
Whisky Auctioneer is very easy to deal with and looks like between £750 and £900.
Fees are I think £6 per bottle to list and 5% of the hammer price.
Generally retail will offer less and sometimes a lot less.

It'll probably be the Festival edition (22yo), as I don't think I can bring myself to pop the hand bottled.

I'll bet that will be bloody gorgeous, but way out if my league I suspect. In the meantime the 12 YO is very pleasant for my meagre whisky drinking knowledge and experience.

Nothing quite like Amazon prime day to allow me to try a few new things I would have otherwise never purchased.
If I don't end up liking them, I wasn't too much of a mistake at these prices.
