Dark chocolate is not too bad. The big no-no is milk chocolate.
Inducing vomiting is good anyway, unpleasant memories are a partial deterrent.

Huh? That's different to my understanding. I always thought the darker/greater the cocoa content the worse it was. What's in milk chocolate that makes it worse?

Upon checking you are correct. I was always told the opposite. My apologies.

A little but very bitter sidestep:

Lots of Covid-related protest demonstration going here. Most are not 'friendly'. The police uses dogs to control the crowd. Some protesters cover themselves with pure cocoa powder before they purposely turn to the police... Police officers with their dogs think twice before exposing their dog to that.

It’s my understanding that cooking chocolate is the most poisonous to dogs.
A shooting vet friend even recommends milk chocolate for emergency treatment for hypothermic shock in working dogs

    Theobromine is the problem.
The purer the chocolate the higher %

Nothing special about cooking chocolate. The higher the cocoa solids the worse it will be.

Our youngest GR pup (6 months old) helping to pick some kale from the veggie patch.

I am not really sure he was as helpful as he thinks he was....

I love it when they start 'helping'. And it's annoying at the same time.

On Sunday, I was busy installing a new antenna on (in?) my Jimny and I had to kneel to get under the dash because I needed to re-route the antenna cable. My Rottweiler was totally happy as in: 'finally, my human's head is at the same height as mine. Let's start licking his face!'

‘Touch my human and I’ll come after you!’

No, that's kidding. He's very gentle. He doesn't harm his 'herd' and territory: his humans, the two cats and the garden. But, don't mess with these rules and he will have 'a word with you'. And, like all Rottweilers, he has the lines from Hotel California written all over: 'You can check out any time you like, but you can leave!'

My word what a cutie, I'm not much of a dog person. The wife is currently campaigning hard for one, made the mistake last weekend going to see a puppy our lad had previously met and it was claimed 'bonded with', he's got a dog phobia normally...she's sweet, a mutt with quite a bit of American Stafford in there...I'm now on the horns of a dilemma.

Be useful to hear how's it going 2 months on...

Quick game of Spot the Mucky Puppy!

Looks like Winnie is fully embracing Mabel’s love of everything wet and muddy!

Time for a kip after a quick wash and brush up.

Pffff. My Rottweiler hates puddles. He walks around them, no matter how difficult that route is. Is typically Rottweiler character: the first one that we had at home when I was a lad, did the same. That dog even refused to go out for 'walkies' when it was raining.

Strange thing is that our current dog may hate puddles, but he loves a swim in our forest pond during the summer.

We’ve lost two of our three Spinoni in the last few months, which has been heartbreaking. So, when our old lad went to sleep a couple of weeks ago we decided to get another as soon as we could, we’re not a one dog household, and Rizzo our 6 year old was missing her mates.

So, with huge thanks to Beanie from this very parish, I’d like to introduce you all to Momo, 9 weeks old and a proper character. His grandad was best in breed at crufts a few years ago, so he’s got a good pedigree and a huge personality.

We had to make the final trip to the vet last month with Ellie, our family GR

She was almost 17 - a good age for a GR I'm told, but still a sad loss.

After some debate it looks as though a new puppy will be joining us soon and I will post a pic in a week or so

Yes, exactly that, not sure what he weighs now, but he'll grow into a 40KG ish adult, maybe a little larger than the brown dog in the other photo.

    Show us your dogs

Heartbroken to say we lost Jasmine yesterday.
10 days being unable to keep anything down and then refusing food all together.
Inconclusive blood tests, more blood tests and finally having to
wait until Tuesday for ultrasound examinations. (Bank holiday)
I decided that I wasn’t going to make her wait for a nothing can be done diagnosis.
She slipped peacefully away in my arms. She was 11.

Run free Jazzie, ya big donkey xx

We’ve nicknamed her, Two Slabs Jas, as it took two slabs to cover her.

Isn’t it lovely. Its called Trig-Point and is one of the best drives on the estate.
All three of them have had some memorable retrieves working that field.
It’s about 1/2 mile from home so easy for a walk and a chat but far enough away that they’re not “in the back garden” if you know what I mean.
