Great story. Always nice to see a watch that has been worn especially if I'm interpreting "on service" correctly.
I thought some of the CWC enthusiasts would be interested in seeing this.
My friend came over to see me to say goodbye as he's off on service later today and I noticed a NATO strap protruding from his jumper. I thought that unusual as he normally wears leather straps/bracelets on his watches so I asked him about it.
He explained that it's the watch he always wears when going on a mission, along with a CWC (non-issue) NATO strap.
He said the 'black paint' was showing some wear now...

Ignorance breeds Fear. Fear breeds Hatred. Hatred breeds Ignorance. Break the chain.

Going by the date of 'issue' its from the initial batch of SBS Mk1 with L dials supplied in 2015/16, when they again started to re-order these after the Eco-Dive which was supposed to replace it, proved to be less reliable.
Good to see on one 'ops'.

A new arrival for me, not the watch but the hoodie…
Perfect scruffy wear.
Yes, good quality.
It’s that nice soft feel cotton that seems to be all the rage atm.
Nice decals too,
I’ll update after the first wash.
The current Mrs W has been in her room and done the laundry.
Apparently she washed it inside out and at 30’
I can report, no shrinkage, fading or transfer damage.
I hope your women folk have equally agreeable results.
