Probably better to defer to a scouser, but I was recently in Liverpool and had a great pizza at Rudy’s. Great staff, great value and tremendous pizza.

I am after some ideas for food in Liverpool (central and docks).
What I don’t want - posh, expensive or Indian (unfortunately) as I will be with my 17 year old son who does none of those things!
I reckon we will need 4 evening meals so how about suggestions for:
(1)Burger restaurant
(2)Fish restaurant
(3)Chinese restaurant
(4)Anything else but curve balls welcome!
cheers.

Can recommend the Quarter on Falkner Street - not exactly in town - but a short stroll. Good for Pasta/Pizza dishes.
And What’s Cooking in the docks is great for Burgers.
Miller & Carter in Albert Dock
Casa Italia in the Cavern Quarter for pizza/pasta

Meet (Argentinian), Brunswick St
Matou (Thai), on the dock next to ferry terminal
Mayflower (Chinese), Duke St
Al Forno (Pasta/Pizza) Duke St
Duke Street Food and Drink Market (Varied), you guessed it............Duke St
He might dig the last one best at 17yo
All of these are a 5 min casual strollette from the Dock
I know Liverpool well, but I’m a posh foodie!
Are you sure about Indian? Mowgli at Water Street is a very different take on Indian
If Italian is OK, Amalia, or the very long established Casa Italia
Meat: Kassap meat house on Bold Street
Fish: Italian fish club, also on bold street
The only Chinese I would go to is Chung Ku at Brunswick dock, but that is a short taxi ride or Mersey rail from the waterfront,
Maray is good, but maybe not straightforward enough

We were recommended Mowgli and it was fantastic nice twist on Indian without being gimmicky… the chat bombs are very different!

Onion burger from free state kitchen.
Salt house tapas
Petit cafe du coin for cheese and jazz.
The Moroccan on bold street
Unfortunately yes,Indian is most definitely off the menu. I could eat Indian food pretty much all the time but my son is very much unsure of it and it would be a waste of time. It’s a shame ‘cause I am aware of Mowgli and would be there in two shakes of a lamb’s tail otherwise. I have failed as a father.
Barton rouge near the liver building had an excellent tikka salmon starter there a few years ago.
Currys good too I’ve been a few times, but I always remember that salmon.
Good Brazilian restaurant in town too also close to the liver building but I can’t remember the name, probably the one mentioned already.
Edit Bem Brazil (also fezenda is okay and bit cheaper if I remember)

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Out of interest has anybody any experience of Cowshed & Fat Hippo?
Ate at Akaysha in Bold St last Tuesday evening, very nice and reasonable on the wallet - a number of the local bouncers were in pre-shift, so they must have rated it.
Had a few pints in the Cosy Club in L1, good service, good selection of beer and an ecclectic collection of paintings/pseudo antiques.
One tip lots of the smaller bars/restaurants would only take card.
@spy The London Carriage Works is very nice.
Knife and fork like the rest of us?
If you want posh
Roski on Rodney Street
Or go mad and make the short trip to Moor Hall in Ormskirk with two Michelin stars
Or for nice but not crazy prices:
Maray
Mowgli
Wreckfish
Salt House Tapas
The Monro is a nice Gastro pub
Drink at
Le Petit Cafe du Coin on Berry St
Late night cocktails at Berry and Rye
Or Cigars and Whisky at the Puffin Lounge
That should keep you going
