There have been a fair few threads on space watches and as a speedie owner I have to say it’s one overrated watch.
I'm sure many folk know it's not just the infamous Omega Speedmaster that's got a history tied up with the space race and trips off the planet generally, but I was amazed at the number mentioned in this brief Hodinkee piece - 1,899 pieces.
The chap behind the database definitely put some time into it.

I've contributed towards a couple of IDs in Jackson's impressive database. He's a really nice fellow.

Huh, I own 3 "space" watches, and not one of them is a Speedmaster.
It's an amazing piece of work, fascinating
Yawn.
How many were worn on the outside of the spacesuit?
Sacly.
Evidently not all Speedy wearers were quite so confident about its durability.
Or possibly to stop the crystal popping off like Dave Scott's did on his second lunar EVA of Apollo 15 ? (Hence the Bulova 'back-up').Omega Speedmaster chronograph used by Talgat Musabayev on six spacewalks between January and August 1998.
Musabayev had the Speedmaster covered in Scotch-tape in order to protect the plexiglass a bit more during the harsh spacewalk events...

The most obvious is the Seiko SpaceWalk Spring Drive. Also a FIYTA chronograph worn by Zhai Zhigang, a Glycine Airman in an open Gemini capsule in '66 and recently a Panerai Radomir worn by Anton Shkaplerov on EVA in January 2022. Fortis as mentioned and others as yet unidentified.

I do like the Fiyta chrono. It just looks a bit different to themore traditional stylings and obviously have the pedigree.
Ahh love it when these threads surface as I normally learn some more.
Anyone else remember the super keen fan of the Bulova, that was great thread

Lots of 'space' watches, but isn't the usual name of the Speedmaster Pro "The Moon Watch"?
Far less competition for watches that have been on the moon.
Not that any of that really matters. It's just a great, versatile, stylish chronograph for us Earth bound mortals, which is why NASA chose it originally.
Sadly, it's not the bargain it was only a handful of years ago.

Well, what about a bit of middle ground with an "edge of space" watch..
