    Smokeless fuel

I live in a smoke control area and want to use the open fire in my home for the first time (it's been swept)!

Can anyone recommend any smokeless fuels, such as fire logs or briquettes please?

    Thanks in advance.

We use kiln dried logs, lots of heat generated and easy to light.

Are they smokeless or do they just produce less smoke?

There is no control with an open fire, if you get an emissions zone approved log/multi fuel burner it will make a huge difference, as others have said, there is no smoke without fire, but if you burn efficiently; get the chimney drawing well with plenty of kindling to raise the heat and create a good draw with plenty of red hot embers, then burn decent seasoned hardwood (not necessarily kiln dried), but properly seasoned quality wood substantially under 20 percent moisture content, it will be near as damn it smoke free. I often look outside to monitor and see a slight heat shimmer from my chimney, I also have a flu thermometer to show the optimum burning temperature and also if the glass and fire bricks stay clean you will know you are burning efficiently. Yes, you will be burning through logs faster but better that than smoking out your neighbours and sooting up your chimney.

Years ago my parents used to burn Homefire and it burnt really well, lots of heat and very little ash. It seems to be still available.

Been using Homefire smokeless in our multi fuel stove for years now. It burns well, burns hot, but it is quite expensive compared to others. Just gone up in price as they use gas to make it :)
