It's extremely well known, but evidently not well known enough, that most knife crimes are committed with kitchen knives.
Cheap and readily available on most high streets and in every kitchen.
Making things like movie knives harder to buy isn't going to make a jot of difference to that.

I don't have stats to hand but I can imagine that's true. Kitchen knives are cheap disposable and easy to buy without any paper trail. Buy cheap, carry, stab and dispose.
Having said that so called Zombie knife is becoming a real issue, enough for the government to do something about it.

Tbf I lay the blame squarely at Nick Shebazz for this particular purchase (and for the inevitable future purchase of a Rogue Blade Works carbon scales upgrade). Admittedly, I originaly came to him for his watch videos (seamaster 300m diver) but that tracks back to spending time on TZ. So yeah, TZ is totes responsible.

Feels lovely in the hand and has some great detail - available in various wood handles, the pattern on the spring is hand carved so they are all different. UK legal

How did you find it? I am interested in getting on as a lightweight backpacking knife. I have only handled a 'homage' one so far and the scales were a bit flexi but I loved the ergonomics and the slimness
Not got it yet, I had to reschedule the delivery so it'll be here tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on with it. If you are in the UK bare in mind that it's not legal to carry one of these as it is a lock knife. Mine won't be leaving my house.
I have a cheap locking knife, can't remember the make, and it's been very reliable and useful. I never take it out of the house mind you.
The UK knife law is just a sop created by busybodies who don't possess the character to tackle violent crime. They are, however, only too happy to dispossess law abiding citizens of freedom of choice, and dare I say the tools to defend themselves from scum.
The vast majority of the general public would agree that our sentencing laws are too weak. Who are these people who decide they're just fine? I'm guessing they don't live in rough areas.
Incidentally - guns aren't illegal in Northern Ireland. Strange one, that.
Have a couple of ‘ball detent’ folders myself and must admit to liking the way they work.

Read this thread and inspired by it went to look for a cheap folding pocket knife. Don’t really need one but seemed like fun.

Quick update. It came yesterday and I've been fiddling with it ever since. I have now perfected the 'thumb flick'. I'm no knife expert and I have no real frame of reference but the bugout mini is a quality bit of kit as far as I can tell. The blade is perfectly centred and there is no blade play.
It's certainly light weight. If you press the centre of the scales hard enough when the blade is open you get a little bit of flex but it feels solid enough. The blade is very sharp and it's big enough for the cutting tasks that it's designed for.
I'd say this is a one and done for me. This may be famous last words but I don't feel the need to collect knives in the same way as watches. They don't compliment an outfit and you can't really carry these locking knives in a practical sense anyway. I may get a set of carbon or titanium scales for it at some point in the future and possibly a legal non locker if I feel I'm missing out on edc.

Well my Ontario RAT II has arrived, but I'm not telling you about it, because I need some time to get a feel for it.
The initial purchase, a Kershaw Emerson CQC 5K, went back because it was huge. Nice, but too big for a pocket.
Unlike the twits on Amazon who post a 5* review of a product and then write in the text. "Looks good in the box, haven't opened it yet - 5*"
Initial impressions: nope, not doing this.
I've fitted a 3mm paracord loop to it.

However, I have had a bugout for several years and the scale flex really is not an issue. It's not a hard use knife and any force you apply using it is downward not lateral. I'd simply enjoy carrying it and using it, as it is.

The pocket clip is up by the blade. Certainly could put a lanyard through the hole. But not really that sort of knife.

Then I'm a little confused because, at least on paper, the Rat II has similar dimensions: ~3" blade and ~4" closed.
If you don't use the pocket clip, you can detach it to make wearing it inside your pockets more comfortable.
If still too big but you don't want to downsize too much, you could think of something with a slimmer profile, like Kershaw Chill or Kershaw Ener-G (not sure about their availability these days, they may have been discontinued).
I find pocket clips eventually get caught on a doorframe usually and bent, so looking for a solution to stop me losing nice pocket knives! If it was clipped to a belt hoop and on a string or cord that would work.
Certainly would work. Mines not bent in 18months it’s a really slim knife and not bulky.

The steel nobleman is a very good knife indeed. I would have had zero expectations of a coated version.
Thanks for that. I was aware of those Flytaniums and if I went titanium I think I'd go for those but at the minute the carbon fibre scales from Rogue Bladeworks would be my preference. That said I'm happy with the original scales in all their orange glory, plus I'd have to invest in tools (and lubricant) to switch the scales out so it'd be a relatively expensive upgrade. Maybe in future if I get bored but I'm happy with it as is for now.

I really like it and for £42 I am very pleased.
I've fitted a 3mm paracord leash to it, because I fit a leash to all my utility knives. I can pull them out of my pocket far more easily and they just turn into a far more usable proposition.
Had to go orange obviously, to go with the green. See last picture !!
The thumb stud is really nice and one-handed action is easy. The weight in hand is good and it locks nicely (liner lock) and unlocking it is easy too,
It's too early to say how long it stays sharp for, but AUS-8 steel is proper Japanese tough, so I'm hopeful.
I moved the belt clip to the other end , because the leash now falls into better use.
Overall at a couple of weeks: HAPPY
Looks like a lot of knife for the money, very nice.
