Thats what I order on a Saturday night, fish - chips - battered sausage but with the addition of a curry sauce…………..heaven.
Price down here is £9.80.
It's been a while since I had fish and chips from a local chippy, but I was home alone the other night and had a real hankering.
So I pootled off down to the purveyor in a nearby village and ordered a medium cod, small chips, and a battered sausage (because I thought, why not?).
I was a little surprised at the price - £10.50
Has it all gone up in the past few months? I don't recall fish and chips becoming such a luxury item. It just seemed a surprisingly large amount for a simple takeaway - and they weren't large portions. If I'd had a large cod and large chips it would have been over thirteen quid! To feed a family of four, even modestly, you'd be pushing £40 or more.
Or am I hopelessly out of date on prices?
So clever my foot fell off.

In Sawbridgworth, Cod and Chips+ two plain sausages chips and an onion is £20
How irksome.
If I were you I would sail to Iceland, catch a cod big enough to provide a wholesome fillet, then drive to Lincolnshire and dig up enough King Edwards to make a basketful of chips, then press and refine some rapeseed oil, build a fire and hang a cauldron over it filled with your oil, harvest some corn then mill it into flour, make up a nice batter (add an egg for a smoother mix), then batter the fish and cook yourself a delicious fish n chip dinner. You'll save a fortune!
One trip over the North Sea in a large, safe vessel during a very mild storm, gave me more than enough respect for those poor souls who go fishing for a living. Total respect guys. I also spent some time working in a fish shop (merely taking measurements!) but the heat and pace made me realise why I didn't complain about the prices. Despite our skepticism, our food industry does a great job, from fish and chip shops to top restaurants. Pay and enjoy!
£8.53 for regular f&c and a sausage at my chippy in Darlington.
I'd love to tell you what it is here but my one and only local fish and chip shop couldn't afford to stay in business. This is despite (or perhaps because of) having every kind of food emporium imaginable locally. They were replaced by a franchise posh burger bar, which seems to be doing well.
That would be £8.80 here near the centre of the Palatinate, certainly less out in the villages.
F.T.F.A.
I mainly get fish and chips at the seaside and would think that £8.50 for a fish supper and a couple of quid for a sausage chaser is about right - and has been for a while.
between £8-10 here for what you had
2 large cod,1 regular cod,1 small battered sausage and a large chips (massive- plenty for the four of us) is about £22.
Cod and chips are €11.20. They’re worth every penny as the fish is always fresh, never frozen. It makes a huge difference. Galway Ireland.
£7.70 down here in Somerset.
scooter
£5.90 for a haddock or cod supper up here. Never heard of anyone adding a sausage to it, must be an English fad.
Our Friday regular is 1x cod, 1x chicken portion, 1x large chips between us, 1x chip shop curry, and 1x hot red curry. Total £16.09.
Could reduce that by a couple of quid at another chippy nearby but the quality difference is worth the extra.

£6.00 - £6.50 for the cod supper in rural Northern Ireland, which includes peas
Sausage would be an extra quid
Around these parts 2 med Cod and 1 reg chips = £13.55
Not expensive considering the size of the portions and it's the best chippy in Chichester!
The chippy I use if I ever feel the need.

£7 here in Grantham for large Cod and (huge) chips at my local chippy. Extra £1.10 if you're some sort of weirdo who has a sausage with it.
Cod?
They should give it away for free.
Haddock, that’s the ticket.
Large Haddock n chips £9.50 around these parts.
I paid £13 last weekend for two medium fish and large chips.
It actually struck me how cheap that was when you consider rent, profit, wages, price of fish, etc

£12? Jesus... I use New Beacon Road Fish Bar - they don't deliver. They also do the best Chicken Tikka kebab in naan that I've ever had. https://www.beaconfishandchips.co.uk/menu

My large cod and chips at our local is £12.50 cooked to order.
Add a sausage for £2.70.
It's absolutely lovely.
Cheers,
Neil.
Local chippy is £7.50 for 'large' haddock supper (i.e. with chips).
Fish is pretty good, chips tend to be a bit 'limp'
Last night I got a cod, battered sausage, 2 chips and two curry sauces for £15. It wasn't my usual chippy as ours in closed on a Sunday and it was hands-down the worst chippy-tea I've ever had.
When I visit my dear old mum I usually call and get 2 fish and a portion of chips plus a tub of mushy peas - £9.60 for the lot.
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
Large haddock (with skin on) + medium haddock (skinless) + large chips and small gravy £10.90, if you can find a chippy that cooks fish with skin on - go for it, you'll never look back.

Medium cod and chips £10.95
Large haddock and chips £11.95
Battered jumbo sausage £3
Steak & kidney Pukka pie and chips £6.90
Just under £8 for haddock supper here, which is theft considering the fish landed just 30 miles up the road. A rare purchase as not the healthiest things either.
Medium cod £8.70, regular chips (no small) £2.40, battered sausage £2.40.
£13.50 total here.
2 cod, large chips, saveloy and a curry sauce is somewhere around the £16 mark at our local in Berkshire.
The village one is more expensive and not as good as the one in the less salubrious estate further away.
The air has a waft of drugs and kids wearing their hoodies up perched on bmx bikes. Looks like a low rent wannabe Salford type area.
But the chips are amazing there. I’ve often found that fish shops that are also Chinese take aways seem to have amazing chips. No idea if any correlation there in reality.
My new favourite chippy: https://chipwick.co.uk/wp-content/up...1-v7-PRINT.pdf
It was absolutely superb (I linked to the take away menu for comparison with the other prices given, but we ate in the restaurant)
Tuesday is the day the mobile chippy comes to the village. Lovely, hard working people and we're always happy to give them our business, and we're not the only ones. But it's my daughter's run so I cannot tell you how much it costs in detail (usually less than £15 for 2 portions of chips, 1 scampi, 1 cod and a pair of sausages)

£12.55 or £11.25 at our two nearest chippies. I would say that are a large portion of chips though. OAP fish and chips £5.25!
Large Plaice, large Haddock both light batter and a portion of chips ( big enough for two) £13.50 takeaway. I personally dislike take away food of any description but will relent for Fish and Chips.
Oh and forget the “ sweepings” sausage
