Will you go for one or are you maybe holding out for the acrylic?

I’d love the acrylic version - I just can’t get along with the “milky ring” effect of the sapphire.

Were there any acrylic crystal commandos sold today? I have heard of them but don't recall seeing a picture. I'm defiantly warming to this one.

I’ve never had an issue with the sapphire “milky ring” but I know many can’t get on with it. I’ve a few acrylic pieces so can see the appeal, depends on the watch. I generally like sapphire more on a polished watch cases. If it’s brushed I like the used acrylic look.

Reminded me of the commando tropical dial. What’s more interesting though is what the original owner has had done to the case. Follow the link and check how he engraved his name and address on the side of the case. There’s also a link to a YouTube vid.

Has anybody received one of new tropical dial Commando pieces yet, would love to see what they look like on the wrist so to speak.

Did anyone manage to get to order one of these today?

I was waiting for the store to open but the “add to cart” never appeared for me.

I did not think the shop was open today. I am waiting for the Polar Dreadnought so have been watching for announcements. A Facebook comment suggests it might be October 17?

Hopefully we get to see more of these in people’s hands with some strap changes. I’ve not seen any posted anywhere yet. Are people keeping their smiths pieces with the plastic on and not enjoying them? 🤷🏻*♂️

Ill be using mine as a daily wearer for sure, I’m not sold on the riveted bracelet and 20mm gives lots of strap options from my speedie.

I’d like to see it on a Milanese or simple brown calfskin.

Dial looks stunning here… is it a darker brown in person? Some of the photos make it look lighter.

In half light it looks black, in room lighting it’s like a mahogany and in sunlight it’s more noticeable.

Crucially it never looks like dog shit brown...! 😀

As far as "browns" go it is a very good brown. I can't wait for the Tropical Commander.

Congratulations. Looks great on the wrist. I guess the dark colour of the hands is a lighting thing? Dark brown hands would look amazing though I guess less practical.

Yes all three hands are in high polish. It’s really legible.

I like this one very much - classic lines, could wear it anywhere. If you ever decide to make a non bootneck version or add a tropic dial to the Everest Eddie I'll be front of the queue!

What does ‘non boot neck version’ mean?

Presumably it would not have “COMMANDO” on the dial

I’ve now seen one of these in person and to my eye can confirm the indices have an aged look to them and do not have that greenish tint to them that the Everest sometimes shows in low light.

As it wasn’t mentioned I can only imagine that the lume is still X1-C3 but with a different colour added to make it look aged and fit the tropical dial. Can anyone who owns the watch comment?

To me it’s not green, more a vanilla/lemon. It’s close to chromalight in the daytime.

Yes I’d say a very faded yellow with a brown hint to it to my eyes. Think it looks fantastic in person. Really glad the indices were changed to match the tropical dial. Just not sure why it wasn’t specifically mentioned. According to the podcast interview with Eddie the people manufacturing the pieces have their own input into the watches too, so I can only imagine after the initial designs from Eddie that they decided on using a different technique to create that effect.

Taken next to each other in the same lighting

I am going to hung out on a limb and say it is the same lume that looks different due to the background.

Initially thought that too but after seeing them
in person it’s definitely not the same lume colour. Cropped image of the 12 o’clock triangle. Same camera, same light taken next to each other.

1st being Everest 2nd being commando

I don't think we have seen this one.

Here is a look at the Smiths Commando prs-47 tropical dial.
