M25 speed restrictions in the dead of night, for no reason.
60 mph
next gantry - 50 mph
next gantry - 40 mph
next gantry - 50 mph
next gantry - NSL
For no reason. No debris, no accident, no nothing.
I've emailed the Highway agency a number of times asking them to explain, - they avoid the question then ignore any further communication.
Signs like this: -
"Road closed for 21:00-05:00 for 11 nights from 24 July".
Would save the motorist working it out whilst driving if they just gave the dates, 24 July to 3 August.
And why do they never remove the signs once work is over? Has the work overrun?
I'll never understand why I have such strong affection for my dog. She farts, snores, is a complete attention seeker, costs a fortune to keep and never gives me a moment's rest. But I'd be lost without her.
How I'm totally fine if I follow my double shot morning coffee up with another double shot coffee but if I follow it up with a single shot coffee I'm on the toilet looking like I'm on a ride at Alton Towers. Surely it should be the other way round?
Are you drinking it with milk? More milk with a single shot?

I've never quite understood what Jabba was planning to do with Leia.
Same milk both times, lactofree skimmed milk. Maybe the ratio is different and the single shot ends up being stronger and digested differently
^ Ha I've watched that several times this week, V for Vag... bloody funny
I drove about 10 miles on the M62 last week in chaotic traffic caused by signs saying (something like) "Reports of Accident". Didn't see one although I am sure that resulting slow moving traffic may have caused more than one. They have cameras everywhere on motorways - if you can't see an accident, there ain't been one!!
Did you ask under the Freedom of Information Act? I tried a few years ago when there was some equally completely random series of restrictions on a perfectly clear and quiet stretch of the M62. I've definitely more often seen restrictions when there was no obvious need than when there was. "Smart motorway" is up there with the best oxymorons.

This is a classic from a Highways Agency tweet this morning:
“#M62 westbound J27 #Gildersome to J25 #brighouse there are currently long delays due to 3 lanes (of 4) being closed just west of J25. There is a technical fault preventing the signals from being cleared. Engineers are working to resolve the fault.”
Local news says “Highways England has apologised after a technical fault lead to eight miles of queues on the M62”.
What a bunch of jokers.
it would be less funny next time they can’t turn the warning signs on when some poor so and so is stranded in a live lane on one of the “smart” sections.
FOI is a good point. If I had the time I'd peruse it. It happens so often - last night: M23, loads of warning signs telling everyone to do merge into 1 lane, 50mph, then 40mph... for a few miles we're all queuing up in the fast lane, doing 40mpg on a four lane motorway... - miles onward we go, and no reason for this in sight. Then, gantry after gantry was just blank. No more signs, - no "end of pointless instruction" notice... - nothing.. - so you're left thinking "shall I just use the roads as normal and risk a fine (whilst others start to undertake you at 70mph), - or do I sit here like a lemon doing 40mph in the fast lane.
Happens all too often

Part worn, second hand tyres.

When I was an apprentice in 1983 remoulds were still double the price of a typical part worn.
As an aside, I briefly worked in a remould tyre factory on Llandow industrial estate some years later, and subsequently I would never trust a remould from what I saw and experienced.
I would rather trust a part worn tyre with Michelin, or Goodyear or whatever on its side than a remould that could have been made from any old rubbish. Both have unknown histories so no advantage to either there.

Indeed, often see the cast off thread adorning one of the lanes. We also made truck remoulds in the factory, to say quality control even existed was being fairly charitable so pretty frightening stuff. This was 1994 mind, no idea what things in the industry are like today, I would sincerely hope much better.

People who can stand for ages and ages looking at the prepacked sandwiches in Tesco like Howard Carter looking into the newly opened tomb of Tutankhamen.
It’s basically ham, cheese or tuna. Pick one and move!!!
Don't passenger aircraft use remoulds?
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
Back in the day, when aircraft travel was rampant, why O why, do people hug the Baggage Collection carousel with their trolleys?
Its quite simple to collect luggage, you simply stand 2 feet away from the carousel, thus allowing your fellow travellers to also see their cases coming through. When your luggage pops up, simply step forward pick up your luggage and load your trolley and off you pop!.
But oh no, thats too simple....

You would think so wouldn't you?
Last time we flew to the US we were picking up our luggage at the carousel, three pieces of red Samsonite, nothing else like it, except we went home and got a call straight away from Virgin telling us we had somebody elses case!
Exactly the same as our set so I had to take it back to Gatwick. Luckily we live close. On arrival I was taken through special doors to the bowels of the airport whilst accompanied at all times to exchange our case.
The staff were great as we went through an underground customs department and fully understood how the mistake was made.
I did ask them how you could differentiate cases on the carousel and she showed me a minuscule bit of print on the sticker which I had never spotted before.
I know now.
Cheers,
Neil.

Why no one leaves their 'parking lights' on when their car is parked.
A few years ago I experienced a tug of war with a powerfully built director type over a suitcase. The director claimed the bag as his until I pointed out my numerous name/address labels taped on each side of the bag, including the suitcase handle which has a label double taped on both sides of the label and which moves freely around the handle. My thinking is that a label or two may fall off (but has not so far) and whichever way up the suitcase is, a label can be seen. The handle label in particular requires scissors to remove. How this director missed all the labels I have no idea.
I think alone travelling passengers have the trolley in front whilst at the carousel. Certainly at Delhi airport, you cannot blink or lose sight of your bag. A few years ago my father in law had his trolley behind him and a took a step forward to pick up his suitcase and during that action, his rucksack disappeared. Now fortunately as I had been tasked with applying the labels, I was able to email the airport to describe a generic black rucksack with greater detail due to the labels. A few airport goodbye photos also helped which included the rucksack. The airport located the bag in ‘lost’ property.
My dad had one in the 60s, it was used when parked in a 40mph zone at night as an alternative to leaving sidelights on. He worked as an insurance agent and did lots of short runs on an evening, lots of stopping and starting. In those days cars had dynamos , not alternators, and keeping the battery fully charged was harder. Minimising drain on the battery was desirable so a parking light which drew less current was worthwhile.
