Having completed the Eroica Britannia number of times and thoroughly enjoyed them. This morning I have booked accommodation and signed up for the Eroica Hispania, 17th October 2021, the route travels through and around the Rioja region of Spain.
Will not have any compadre with me but looking so forward to it, so if anyone from here is also riding it please let yourself be known and if doing the longer route we could meet up..

Family day today so didn't get a chance to hit the saddle, but we were out having pub lunch and I couldn't believe how many cyclists were out today. Its not surprising given the weather but quite incredible.
Anyone out in it today, how was the heat?

Yes it was bloody hot! Considering I'm pale and burn easily I cope ok with the heat, but a few struggled.
Don't forget in this heat you not only need to keep hydrated, you need to keep the salts you are sweating away topped up...
Out at 6:50 this morning, back home and drinking fresh coffee by 9. Still 16/18 degC glad I didnt ride mid afternoon it nudged 28 deg C in N.Wales

Just shaved 574g from my Brompton.
Swapped out my old Marathon tyres for some new Continental Contact Urbans which saved 290g for the pair.
Changed my Brooks B17 for a Fizik Tempo Argo which shed 274g over the Brooks
I needed a new seat post clamp as mine was a little chewed up and bought a Titanium one which saved 10g over the original Brompton one.
Nothing wrong with what was on the bike, just a little bored and fancied something to do.

I need some help with headset sizing please.....
I've ordered a Sonder Camino AL (just the frame and fork) and following the 'Build Spec' from the Sonder website I've ordered a;
FSA Orbit C-40-ACB Headset / 7.8mm Spacer
Despite it showing 'in-stock' when I ordered a week ago, I've just received and email saying delivery expected end Aug.
I wouldn't have thought it that tricky to source an alternative......but then I'd have to understand the sizing....which I don't (very confusing).
The Sonder website also uses the ref: Headset: IS42/28.6 | IS52/40
Any shared advice/guidance from the TZ cycling crew......??

First time in nearly 30 years of serious cycling I have strayed from the big S. The levers action takes a little getting used too with the “ thumb” button for down shifts. However maybe its because its new or the minimal jumps in the 11 speed 11/27 but the up shifts are silent and they engage so smoothly. Very pleased so far.

Had a disastrous ride this morning. All was going far too well, then my route guidance took me to a private road, which when I realised it wasn't possible to go down I had no alternatives but to carry my bike through a lengthy muddy trail. To cut a long story short, I use Komoot app to plan rides, you set destination and it maps out the route but lately its been taking me through all sorts of unsuitable terrain and roads. I've had enough.
Question for thr strava users, do you have the ability to avoid certain terrain when mapping routes, eg I'm on a road bike so don't want to hit trails etc. Is that possible?

I recently picked up a Brompton B75 and added mudguards, or well Halfords did. Have a folding pedal to go on but currently awaiting for the right side non folding pedal as it of stock. Also have luggage block and eazy wheels to be added.
ok, so it’s an integrated headtube (IS) that has an upper headtube with a 42mm inside diameter (actually 41.8mm but who’s counting) and a lower headtube inside diameter of 52mm, and the fork would have a 1 ⅛ in to a 1.5 in tapered steerer tube (28.6mm / 40mm)
your best bet is to give Hope a bell and ask them. I don’t think they have anything with those exact numbers but they’ll be able to tell you whether half a mil really matters. Plus their headsets are top notch.

Sticking with Komoot just before you bin it off, what type of cycling have you got the app set as? If you tap On the little bike symbol , you will get a menu stating pick a sport. If you dont want to stray down muddy tracks and quasi cyclepaths tick road cycling. I had mine set to cycle touring and it took me down grassy canal paths, lovely on a gravel bike, not so on a road bike 25mm slicks and road cleats .

Strava has the option of sticking with asphalt when route planning.
If I have time I usually check out a new route on Street View.

Well hats off to young Tom riding around a course that would put 50% of MTB’s in hospital, AND making it look so easy. Clearly a real star for the future.
He’s multi talented and will go on to much more.
Agreed, he delivered a perfect race in tough humid conditions on a very gnarly course. I had read it was a gnarly track but watching it wow, that was a very hard and demanding circuit, much more of a typical Red with a bit of Black thrown in for good measure type course than an XC circuit. Very impressive composure and race craft from Tom, what a talent he is.
I would love to have a go on that track, apart from Wasabi climb....I don't fancy the leg burn from that one!
The womens race was earlier todY , same track but they put a few wooden ramps on the drops. Didnt trouble the Swiss riders who flew over the boards. Also a bit wetter today so slippier underfoot.
I read that Tom trained in a heated tent to get used to the heat and humidity. Its also clear his cyclocross early season races not only give hime superb base fitness but also excellent bike handling skills.

You may not know this, but margaritas are the very best sort of cycling hydration. The salt round the rim helps replace lost electrolytes, and the carbohydrates in the Tequila provide valuable energy.
