I'm at BBR , car having some horses added , and the burger man said Elvis Mike were here filming recently , apparently using the rolling road , and one of the film crew had said they are race fettling an MX5 to 'race against a Ferrari'
Anyway, they may be 3 other people in here interested in this

I’ve always thought they must fake a lot of the workshop stuff on these programmes. It always makes me chuckle when they spend hours fixing something whilst exhibiting amazing skills in a fully equipped garage - even with every possible tool known to man and expert knowledge a lot of the jobs look to need a high level of skill - and then we are supposed to believe they are delighted to sell a car that’s been virtually stripped and rebuilt for a couple of grand profit!!?? Yeah, right!

I think the profit thing is odd, in later series they tally up the man hours which is quite scary , 45/50 .an hour's and someone is getting a car 5k+ cheaper than had a dealer done it
Thing is those cars have to be perfect or they'd get a.lot of come back of they sold a dud
They are nice guys apparently, I know Brewer isn't everyone ones cuppa (.unlike him ) but they said here he was great , had plenty of time for people

I cannot stand the bloke. I cannot see the skills he brings to the program either, he sounds totally artificial and a caricature of a second hand car salesman.

Its make believe, just like the way they find those impossible to obtain parts at silly cheap prices, and all of those use once specialist tools.
The Noble they dicked about with was funny, they got someone to wind up the boost, what they didn't tell you was that they grenaded the engine and had to buy a new one.
It’s like car SOS say we have three weeks to it, yea right, they need to hide the shells that are present on other episodes.
I met Mike once when my mate sold and bought back his RX7 to the show.
He clocked my Milgauss and we had a good chat about watches and cars. I found him to be good company.
Never understand the general dislike of Mike Brewer - strikes me as the genuine article of a petrolhead who has turned his interest into a business. He does come across as a bit of a wideboy but that’s what I expect tbh! Then again, I find Clarkson and Hammond insufferable, and the shaven headed bloke (Chris?) on the current Top Gear is clearly a brilliant driver but freezes like a rabbit in headlights when they switch the camera on, even after a few seasons he’s just as bad, so a lot is f then in this genre are a bit of an acquired taste. Ed was a natural in front of the camera which really made him stand out.

I enjoy Wheeler Dealers and I find Mike Brewer entertaining, I also enjoy car SOS despite Tim Shaw who irritates me.
These shows are entertainment and should be seen in that context, I enjoy the technical stuff and I’d like to see more, but they have to strike a balance.
On the basis that they can’t afford to sell a dud I often wonder how much more work/ parts they put into the cars than the stuff they feature, especially with the older cars.
They can't take the mick too much and make stuff up, as they would lack credibility
But in the US wherever you are you are a few miles from someone who mends or refurbs anything, incredible really. It's like Pawn Stars when someone brings in a bizarre item like a 16th century torture device, and Rick says 'ill just go to the local 16th torture device shop and get it refurbed'

I would say all the names mentioned here come across as genuine car guys, as was said Ed China is a natural talking to the camera, Chris Harris is a top driver and very knowledgeable, again he comes across as a nice bloke, even Clarkson and Co are great to watch, to be fair I can watch most car programs especially restoration/auction based ones, I could sit on the sofa and binge watch whole series if I had the chance!
The one who stands out as someone I just couldn’t watch was Chris Evans, he was so in your face, had an edge to him that I just didn’t take too even though he likes his cars.

Ed seems a nice bloke, but again he must have help in addition to the guy who just helps him to lift bumpers and bonnet off and on.
I do watch the programme and find most episodes interesting
They did an S2000 Honda some time ago and approached the car club for advice and looking for second hand bits, certainly did more work than admitted to on screen, only programme that I really watched due to the car involved.
I don't overthink the program so I quite enjoy it and find some of the things they have done by professionals really interesting, beats the likes of Coronation Street all day long :).
Many years ago my cousin dragged me to Tatton Park (I think) after receiving a call from a car show about an old banger that he had advertised for sale.
It wasn't Mike, but another somewhat rotund fella who was presenting. Seemed a nice guy. There were a few cars there, and the guest of the show drove each one around the track before choosing one of them to buy and use in an upcoming rally - Scumball, I think it was named?
For some reason my cousin took the raving needle that his car wasn't chosen, so while they were filming the outro to the show he tear arsed it out of the park on an immaculately kept gravel road - pissing himself laughing.
It was pretty embarrassing. I did laugh though.
It's almost like it is a TV show for entertainment purposes rather than genuine car trading going on.

I am a fan of most car shows although the post HMC era Top Gear has not endeared me due to it's utter silliness.
I like the concept of rescuing old classics although some of the examples have imo kind of stretched the concept of 'classic' a bit, although best not to be too hasty, looking at what people are asking for rotten old cars that were never any good in the first place.
I do wonder at Car SOS where the value of some of the total wrecks restored must be quite significant and whether the owners contribute to the cost?
I like Wheeler Dealers of the Edd China era best.
I know WC never smiles but I like Chasing Classic Cars,
Salvage Hunters classic cars is excellent, Drew Pritchard a bit like Mike Brewer, love or hate them
Some superb restorations on that series.

I have wondered about this also, whilst I dont believe for a minute the typical time frames they supposedly do the restorations in, the restorations themselves are truly top notch (dont believe Fuzz would do it any other way). Some of the people are basically getting cars worth multiples of tens of thousands given back to them at the end of the show, for free. Hmmm.....
