Anything with a Peugeot mechanism
Our pepper mill has given up the ghost tonight, grinding mechanism sheared off. I have done a quick search for recommendations on here but couldn't find anything. Any suggestions for a long lived, adjustable grind pepper mill. Using the pestle and mortar tonight.
Thanks in advance

Have had these for a good few years now, not adjustable, no mess though

Misread the thread title. Nevermind.
We’ve had one of these around 3 years now

Bit of a gimmick but it’s been superb allowing you to use one had when turning a steak over for example or whilst stirring salt it to a soup etc.
Peugeot. Plus you can get the matching knives, bicycles and cars.
I second Cole & Mason
but went with this one, which is adjustable and easy to load
(Also sold as individual pieces)

I have not read this, but it may be helpful. It was updated yesterday, by coincidence:
The Best Pepper Mill
UPDATED MARCH 16, 2021

The wife has had a few of the battery powered or rechargeable Peugeot grinders, but recently picked up a spice boy grinder (oer missus) - so simple to fill, highly adjustable, and best of all no batteries.

I appreciate that this doesn't fit in with the forum artisan product discussions, but Ive had and tried loads of pepper mills, granted not the high end ones mentioned here, but my favourite by far is this humble offering, probably from Lidl or Aldi, its refillable and a nice chunky coarse grind, obviously it won't last forever before performance drops off, but at a couple of quid with pepper its great value!
Cheers..

as above- you dont need a lifetime warrantee for a peppermill imo , buy a cheap one that does the job and throw it in the bin and buy another when it stops working.
We have the same ones too and they seem to be very good. Available on Brandalley for £53 a the moment too:

Cole and Mason for me.
Used every day and it is still going strong after 15 years. When it dies, I will just buy the same one again.
I brought my other half these, love them, styliish, fun to use, electric & they have an LED light for precision seasoning!

Surely there's a £750 corn to plate machine that makes pepper taste 1000 better than a plastic grinder that someone considers the only option (with freshly picked organic corns at £100 a 100g, obviously)?

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
Ordered a Peugeot U select in wood should be here Sunday. Thanks for all the suggestions. Hopefully it will last longer than the plastic one that gave up yesterday.
Of course. Doesn’t come with corns though.

Can one buy a real peugeot mechanism separately to fit into a turned piece of wood?
There's the Peugeot / Lalique salt and pepper grinders - a mere snip at £1350 a pair...

Good choice, just watch with the U select. I’ve 3 standard and 3 U select. The wood at the base, where it sits on the counter or the wooden stand in our case is very thin and needs to be treated carefully or it can crack. Doesn’t affect the grinding.
You’ll enjoy it. Cracking grinder.

If that’s the case, Peugeot offer a lifetime warranty, might be worth checking that route. Must say I prefer my three standard grinders. Over the three U select.

This is excellent. https://www.lakeland.co.uk/73474/Dre...o-Grinder-Mill
I echo posts above. Peugeot mechanism is a must. My mum and dad used to have a beautiful willow pattern china mill that was such a thing to use, weighty, great grinding, but they dropped it. I've been looking for the same thing for years, found nothing.
Of all the things I thought I'd buy as a result of reading some random thread on TZ a couple of Peugeots weren't on the list...
Helped me make a splendid risotto earlier today (stock out of shot)!

These are ok if you don't want to spend a lot:

T&G Woodware (Portishead) “Crushgrind” will last for decades
Word of caution On your Peugeot Chocolate Paris U select grinder. Treat the best gently and don’t drop it. The wood surrounding the mechanism is thin and prone to cracking. The normal grinder like your beech Paris one are as tough as old boots.
