Exactly. My nephew has one and its an amazing animal.

In the meantime I bought the 2001 S54 BMW Z3M Coupe as kind of an impulse buy- Id always liked them and I just couldnt miss the chance for this one in Laguna Seca Blue
as there are only 4 UK cars in this colour and it was the right price.
I simply cant emphasise enough what a revelation the car is- the handling is sublime.....I now know why many Z3mc owners become complete die hard enthusiasts -
theres nothing that ticks the same boxes as the Z3mc!
I wont bother looking for a 718 Spyder alternative.
Oddly I kinda like the fact some people find them awful looking:

I do like that BMW have made some great quirky cars, and that definitely fits that category for me.

    Quite a practical car too.
It's just a matter of time...

    i drive a Range Rover L405 TDV8

had a few RR's before and this is by far the best - my previous L322 was a V8 petrol - my current car is far faster and more economical

BUT its far from perfect - in fact i would go as far as to say do not own one without a form of extended warranty because it has a lot of 'gremlins' especially with electronics

i shoot and fish six days a week normally before lockdown and its absolutely perfect for my needs

and then it can take me effortlessly 200 miles at high speeds to Scotland the next day in luxury - no hotel will ask you to park out of sight, lol

mine has a light interior and blood and guts stay in the boot - my only concession to its daily use is a full set of rubber floor mats

during services i have had the opportunity to drive pretty much all the range including a LWD new Defender a few weeks ago

i loved the Defender but when i specced one i was into L405 territory - so a no brainer for me

i now want a 5.0 SC in Green - if you have one for sale please contact me as nothing on used LR site

    as an aside

before lockdown i fancied a 'summer toy' so i drove a few Porsche models

i really wanted a 911 Turbo S - so my local dealer let me have one for a few days (slightly used)

bloody hell after a few hours on local roads my back ached like hell as the suspension is so hard - fine for autobahns etc

also it was so fast i came upon other cars who did not see i was behind them and some overtaking turned dangerous

    What do you drive?

Thirty something years ago my first car was an orange hot hatch...

    A bit like this...

Not my pic - as mine ended it's life going sideways for about 50 yards after being T-boned by a stolen Cortina.
An ever present hazard living in Salford in the 1980's.

Today I regressed 30 something years & traded in my (Estoril Blue) M135i & collected this beauty...

I know the 1 series is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I so liked the 135i I felt this was the obvious choice for a replacement. It’s pretty near the last of the line M140i Shadow Edition - on a 19 plate with only 7k miles on the clock. So I’m planning to keep this for a good few years.

They won’t make hot hatches like this ever again.

Surprisingly, It’s noticeably quieter, more refined & feels more mature than the 135i - 8th gear is a a bit longer too - so it’s only revving at 1750 at 70mph.

The Harmon Kardon sound system is great too.

    I'm a very Happy Chappie.

That looks like a lot of grown up fun. Im looking forward to having a drive in the 128ti, but its not going to have the same engine feel of lovely smooth 6 cylinders
It's just a matter of time...

So much has changed since I last posted on here. I kinda went all in down the turbo rabbit hole.

    1989 930 G50 (5 speed), my dream car.

2006 997.1 Not really sure why I got so obsessed with this particular generation, but it had to be this exact car (Mezger, manual, sport chrono).

Both gorgeous, love the late 80s / early 90s car so much, had that on my wall growing up dreaming, lucky man!

As for the 997 thats the exact spec I would want, remember the first time I saw one of these on the road giving it beans, a lovely scene.

    More photos please of both!

    Thanks!

I was born in 77, so the original Turbo was the icon of my whole childhood.

With both cars I had very narrow parameters so they are exactly what I wanted. Happy to post more photos! The interior of the 930 is quite special.

77 child here too. No Porsche on my drive!

More pics please, they are both stunning.

    My Latest 2 cars.

Mk8 Golf GTI club sport in dolphin grey metallic

Low mileage, high-spec RRS HSE dynamic.

Two very different cars but very happy with the jobs they both perform.

Yes, it's a '64 Cobra FIA. Just loaded it this morning up on a transporter to a specialist as it lost all drive to the gearbox minutes after that photo was taken.

My father in law is car mad as well, so between us we have a bit of a fleet of crazy cars. He also has a Sunbeam Tiger Mk2, a Mk1 Mini Cooper S and a V10 Audi RS6. I had a Lotus Elan for 11 years, but got so sick of always fixing it.

I drove it dinnertime just to make sure it was ok, had it set to sort mode and kind of thought meh, thats not so great.
Come home this evening having a fiddle and realised that it was the suspension only that was set to sport and not powertrain. Selected both on.....Popped out to get some shopping OMFG! Total transformation.....as you say those lift of burbles😁

Ah yes the setting to engage powertrain as well as the suspension. Its such a great fun car, the burbles are addictive & the car encourages you to be a teenager again.

You will be stealing it more than you think! My wife is usually a very sensible driver, even in a Boxster, Z4, Z4M etc but this just brought the inner child out in her & always really enjoyed the drive.

Bought one the cars on my list last week, R8 V10+ complete with capristo exhaust, the sound is unreal.

Very smooth and solid, doesnt feel that fast really which is strange but it does feel so planted. Looking forward to pushing its limits on track as after watching the old Chris Harris drive video it can slide with the best of them

    Here with its stable mates

That is a fantastic collection. All different layouts and types of engines, must be pretty fascinating swapping between them all.

Your father-in-law sounds like a chap I would would definitely bond with. The V10 RS6 was my first RS6 and when mapped it was (more) fearsome. I now have a 2018 RS6 (also remapped) and it is, to use a Tesla term, ludicrous!

It's a lovely car. Being Mk2 it has the 289 engine, but tuned completely differently to the Cobra.

I just spent a couple of hours driving it today. It's amazing, but I felt like I could've easily been going double the speed limit everywhere without feeling it, it's so effortless. His is the Plus Exclusive, so it's a bit special, with a numbered plaque and every conceivable option.

On the weekend I had some spare time to fit a new silicone hose, the original part had split. I know it's not a picture of the car, but surely we can all appreciate a pretty engine...

I love how the R8 drives although many don't. Can easily drive it every day or thrash it around a track... Even on a wet day! Enjoy it!

Just bought a 2017 535d touring. Absolute monster of a diesel. 3L Bi-turbo. Last of them before they had the current facelift and stopped at the 530d.
Comfy as a London gentlemans club, can drift like the best of the Japanese.

Not got any decent photos though...
