Dug the original Arktis out for a weekend away in London

New arrival 857UTC. Ordered directly from Sinn on Saturday, shipped Monday, arrived Tuesday which I thought was pretty excellent service.

Just picked up this 104 green, limited edition of 500 in mint condition with a bracelet, not a mark on it, thanks Thom!
Not seen this thread before, but as a current 556i owner and lover I might as well throw a pic in. I love this watch, understated, highly versatile and tough as nails. Keeping incredible time too - less than a second per day.

Very nice watch, classic design, but modern. I would love one of these.

My latest Sinn, and I am back up to 2 of them. My EZM1 is going nowhere, I think it is Sinn's best chronograph. Having got that, I have struggled a lot to find what I consider to be the best of the Sinn divers, for me.
The EZM2 had ugly hands, the UX was too big, a 657 was fine but a little too plain (and not really a diver, even if it was dive-capable).
However, this is it, I think - the Sinn U200
It has taken a while to get used to wearing a watch that looks like this (quite modern) but is so modestly sized (37mm diameter).
But it works for me. My wrist is about 7 1/4" and for its diameter this does sit tall, but not very, and certainly less than many of my chronos. The 2000m WR is bound to give the case some depth.
The main point is that it is light, and it suits a perlon or NATO (though at 18mm the choices are fewer than at 20mm), and I find these hands so much ncer than the U1 (or newer U50) alternative.
The fact that the date is nice and symmetrical at 6 also helps make it attractive, I think.
I also think that the SDR (black bezel to you and I) makes this look a more fitting dive watch than the plain steel alternative that the U200 was also offered with. As it is black, it is also tegimented, which helps its durability.
So there you go, Sinn's best (for me) diver.
Dave
My Sinn came back from service. Total bill including both was 895 euros.
The 8820T with the U-Boat text was exclusive to the japanese market and only 200 made of each variety. I did some research and made sure that the glass was correct before committing, because it is not replaceable that easy. It is not a common part but loose parts exist. The downside was that the bracelet was short and the spring was broken.
Little after I found a loose case that was attached to a minty bezel which I need to install. Those I bought for 50 euros.
After that I found a loose full-length bracelet on ebay that was meant for different end links. Probably for 8827 TITAN. Now I have nearly unlimited supply of Sinn Titanium NSA extension pieces!
I calculated that with all of the parts and service, I came to little over 2000 euros for the watch. This is not a bad price for a serviced Sinn 8820T in this condition and long bracelet. You can do better, but I'm never that lucky.
I may have to hunt down a braceletless 8827 TITAN to make it complete though :)
In the end, I guess I just like to gamble on auction sites.
One more shot of the 8820T
Took this at my desk a couple of weeks ago, may as well post it here!

I think the general idea behind an inscription is it is something thoughtfully done by the person giving the gift not the recipient retrospectively. To embellish the gift with your own commentary later suggests your expectations for thoughtfulness were not achieved by your (now) wife and as such I think your wish to source a replacement solid case back which does not exist and engrave a message to yourself on it is a fruitless and questionable endeavour.
Someone else started a thread that may be relevant to your interests. That one hasn't had much positive response either, but you could try giving it a bump: https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...-engrave-rotor
Given that the 556 has, I believe, a standard ETA 2824 or Sellita SW200, you should be able to get hold of a plain replacement rotor which would allow you to keep the original Sinn one and avoid the need to engrave around the branding and risk damaging it. Maybe you could even find someone with the skill to apply some nice custom perlage, Côtes de Genève or even filigree, to make it more unique and interesting.
A friend's Sinn 158
Had loads of Sinn. My only one now and a keeper is the 757 Diapal.

Put my 857 onto a more colourful isofrane!
Couple of more recent arrivals!!
Arktis 203 & 103 Klassik
How are people finding the U50?
Worth going for the full tegimented case or do people think the hardened bezel is enough? Is the bracelet worth the slight premium over the rubber?
thanks for any insight
I love the Arktis and prefer a leather strap, but I just don't think the Arktis works on leather. I bought a lovely carbon effect strap for mine, but I never really liked the way it looked and it's been back on its bracelet for a long time now.
Still, the strap wasn't wasted, it looks great on my Lack Aachen Blau.

I have a U50 full tegimented and would recommend , it really is tough and prevents damage, the colour wil also match the bezel. I only wear mine on silicone/rubber or nato/erikas so cannot really comment on the bracelet. It's a great watch and very different to most diver types, you could say a bit quirky.
This has been my exclusive watch of 2021.....and why not.
