Every day is a learning day here!

Looked at that site a few times, I have some boots laced to reduce slippage on my timberlands and some Sweeneys, the later of which means the laces end up huge when tying, so need to buy short laces.
Will be trying the cross lace without the tongue crossover though, looks smart.
Not sure if I've posted these before. I love them, bity they're pain to put on with the top buckles. Tend to only wear when I know I'll be in them most of the day...
Tricker's Ottenburger. Part of a Himalaya Collection inspired by an order made by Sir Edmund Hilary in 1960.
Women swoon when they see the speed of the Ian knot and my colleagues are very tolerant when I explain their laces come undone because they're using granny knots.

Back on the Cold War, spies used to to lace shoes in a certain way to pass messages.

To all those that asked about my boots, they are indeed Loake Burfords albeit Herrings branded but essentially identical.
Ive had these for years and always found the colour a little light and flat.
As for looking after them, the whole boot gets a layer mink oil for conditioning, a layer of dark brown cream for colour and the toecap gets a dark brown wax polish to high shine, well as best as I can mange.
All products are Saphir.
oh, and the soles get a good soaking with sole guard too, not that it can be seen.

Brilliant thanks for the update I've got some mink oil on order for tomorrow.
I've just had a go at changing my trickers which have always seemed a bit flat and orange couldn't wait for the mink oil lol

I’m the subject of fine footwear, I have a belting pair or trickers George, no longer made so I can’t get a half size larger. Would stretching actually work?

Obviously you cant stretch the shoes to make them any longer but you could stretch them to give them a little more room across the width and around the instep.
Warning, do not try this at home unless you are prepared to bin the shoes if it all goes Pete tong..
Soak the uppers and I mean soak in isopropyl alcohol, insert a pair of trees a size or 2 larger than the shoes and leave to dry for a few days at room temperature. Don’t force the drying it must happen naturally. This should allow the shoe leather to stretch and reform to the larger size tree.
Once dry you must condition the leather with something like sapphire Renovateur which will clean and condition the leather, then just use a cream to restore colour and a wax polish for a shine.
This will only work for calf leather, if your shoes have a box binder finish or a bespoke patination you will likely ruin the shoes.
As i said at the start, dont try this unless you are happy to bin the shoes if it does not work.
Disclaimer - I have never done this but know of others that have.
If any of the above scare you, just use the situation to buy yourself a nice new pair of shoes.

Thanks for the info, these were a gift and Trickers no longer make them. I can’t wear them comfortably so off the bay me thinks.
Tip I’ve read for stretching is to fill with freezer bag of water and put in a freezer.
Never tried it but unlikely to damage finish as IPA could, though if expansion too great might burst seams?
Hopefully this image comes out larger

I've had a pair of Grenson Fred's for a few years now. They're good boots if you pick them up in a sale, not sure I'd ever want to pay full price for them.
I think I'll get a pair of Crockett and Jones ones next.

Psa - sample sale at trickers is now on
I picked up some stows for £176

Since this has become the all-purpose shoe thread - just wearing in some Clarks Desert Welt around the house. .
These are a higher end variation of their desert boot but with a Goodyear welt.
Still want some Grenson Fred boots, but reckon I need a half size, which I can’t find at the same great price as the full sizes, typical!!

I’ve scratched an itch of some redwing iron rangers which I’m currently wearing around the house although it seems the break in stories are slightly exaggerated as these have been fine . I can see what all the fuss is about they're very well made and I fancied something more casual than my staple trickers, that’s it now I’m buying no more shoes I should have enough to last me several lifetimes lol
Today's arrival, courtesy of the Tricker's sample sale.
Boots look great, lacing needs some work I think, too many non even diagonals for me. As annoying as it is, I prefer 1 lace side to do all the work.
Although a cross over with over & user works wonders for tightening over the instep.
Looks like someone else took the second photo? Or you have long arms lol, certainly a partner more understanding than mine!

Looking good - makes me wish I had wide feet!
The wife is understanding, but not that much. Photos taken myself.
Yeah, I do like laces to look more uniform. And a better colour, I'm thinking dark green for these. I much prefer colourful laces. But, this is how Tricker's suggest leaving them, and believe it or not, it makes a big difference to how they fit/comfort.
Thanks. Here you go...

All the info I have I'm afraid
Our classic Marron Antique colour way is beautifully rich and deep in its autumnal tones. An original colour way that goes with all colours and therefore an excellent wardrobe staple. A pair of Tricker's in Marron Antique are a subtle statement packed with sophistication.
Out of stock now but you might find cheap from third-party :
