New Monitor delivered - but is the warranty dodgy?

I've just taken delivery of a new Dell computer monitor but it's missing the HDMI cable!

There's supposed to be 3 cables included: HDMI, DP and USB (the DP cable won't fit with my laptop) and I don't really know what the USB 3.0 upstream cable is for (I'm a bit of a luddite). Do I even need it?

    This is the monitor: https://www.dell.com/en-uk/work/shop...FezhuwgdRbIAJw

I can't connect the monitor to my laptop without the HDMI cable so it's really frustrating.

I will need to order an HDMI cable from Amazon, does the type of cable matter or will the Amazon basics (£5.99) be fine? Do I need a high speed cable?

    Thanks in advance!

That should be fine. It's well reviewed.

The USB cable is to connect the monitor to a USB port on your computer - it will then 'power' the USB out ports on the monitor so that you can plug peripherals etc into the monitor instead of faffing about at the back of your PC.

You don't need the cable if you're not going to use the USB ports on the monitor.

It also says on the Dell page :

    Cables Included:

Power cable | DP to DP cable | USB 3.0 upstream cable

There is no mention of a HDMI cable

That's strange because on the set-up instructions sheet it states that there should be 3 cables in the box: HDMI, USB and DP

My Amazon Basic are high speed. Prefer these to an unbranded eBay one.

    Thanks, just ordered one.

I note that the Dell branded one costs £16 (with VAT included). Would I notice any difference in display quality if I used one?

Thanks, quite handy to have one then!

No, they'll have a high mark up on their own kit.

    Update:

Just noticed that the Monitor has a Turkish warranty card, undated. I bought it from a seller on Amazon (not sold by Amazon) and I'm thinking of sending it back. I'd prefer a UK warranty. Am I being too fussy?

I'd say yes, presumably a Dell warranty?

Not common to have a dated warranty - do you expect sellers to open a sealed box, stamp the card and put it back. Proof of purchase date should be enough.

    Watches of course are different...

See what happens if you try to register it on the Dell UK site...

Thanks, that was a good idea!

Seems like I'm covered under warranty, except it's dated from 21st September 2020, valid until 21st September 2023. So I have already lost two months of warranty, which doesn't seem right.

Now I'm nervous when I remember how my old Sony TV decided to die just one week outside it's warranty.

So I will contact the seller via Amazon but I am leaning towards returning it.

Update: the seller responded to say that the warranty started from the day the monitor was sold to them, not from when I received it. So I have lost 2 months warranty. They didn't explain why it was stamped in Turkey! Reason to return?

Unless it was a real bargain.
    I would return it.

Was it advertised with a short warranty?

Presumably you bought from this seller because of price? TBH I’d keep it, leave seller feedback and avoid the hassle of returning.

You’ve got 34 months warranty instead of 36, not a big difference - that it’s Turkish is irrelevant, doesn’t really matter.

+1 and be grateful if this is all you’ve got to worry about.

I can't imagine going to the trouble of sending it back for the sake of a couple of months warranty you will probably never need. But that's just me.

It wasn't a bargain price, could be had for similar elsewhere. Only bought from Amazon because I needed it quickly (unfortunately it arrived late, even with Prime which was annoying).

I think for big ticket items I feel more comfortable buying direct from the manufacturer.

I can return it easily from a Hermes store nearby.

Lesson learned: avoid buying from Amazon third party sellers.

Dell are short of some monitors.
Tried ordering a computer from them last week.

They haven’t got the monitor in stock. Need to wait several weeks.

Re-read your post. 2 months short on a 3 year warranty ain’t no big deal.
