    MARS

Anyone still up who has a vague interest in the night sky, and has clear skies, go and look at Mars. It’s huge!

It’s dead south and at about a 75 degree ascension.

Must be at its closest point to earth just now, as we both zoom round the sun.

I bet with even a cheapo telescope you’d be able to resolve it into a proper globe. Maybe even see the lighter and darker patches.

    Just had a look with my 8 x 56 binoculars.....it is bright!

It's the closest it's been in like 20 years or something

Thanks a lot for that, beautiful view of the night sky from the East Midlands at the moment. It certainly looks bright and imposing, but I wasn't quite able to resolve it as a sphere with my monocular.

Really stunning naked eye view of Orion, and Pleiades.

The most distant star visible to the naked eye is about 4,000 light years away. But there are stars billions of light years away, so even on the clearest night - you only get to see a small little corner of the universe.

Unfortunately weve had nothing but clouds and rain here since last night. If you get a chance of a pic then please post it :)
