Mortons San Francisco, best steak I've ever had.
Gaucho is great too.

They have virtual queuing. I've been about 5 or 6 times. Good place to bring the kids. The branch near Covent garden has excellent, complimentary ice cream. It's a very simple menu. The signature flatiron steak, and 3 or 4 other options. The burger with bernaise sauce and shallots got the thumbs up from my fellow diners.
On the subject of simple menus, Relais de Venise is a small French chain. There are three location in London. I'v eaten there a number of times, plus the one in New York and the (possibly) original in Paris. Only one thing on the menu, the steak with frites and secret sauce. Not your traditional big steak, but I've rarely had a bad meal there.
Other usual London spots, Goodman, Gaucho, Hawksmoor, listed in the order I refer them. Beast is on my list but I haven't been. I also like Black and Blue. I had a really enjoyable steak at Jack's Place in Battersea, now sadly closed. Actually the steak may not have been amazing, but the place was a lot of fun.
Keens in New York is excellent (one of the few things I agree with Trump on) as is Delmonicos and Wolfgangs. I always regret not going to Luger's.
I had a really memorable steak Segovia many years ago. So memorable that I can picture the food perfectly, but don't remember the name of the restaurant.
Come to think of it I also had a great steak in Ireland. A really nice piece of fillet from a small supermarket, cooked by me in oil and butter. And washed down with a bottle of red. Maybe I was just lucky, but it was a lovely cut of meet (not one I usually choose) and I managed to cook it well.

Local to me , I like the Malmaison hotel restaurant . They have a great steak menu , all the cuts are hung up on view and it’s all cooked in an open kitchen .
Not a fan of M&C as a rule . I had a bad steak in the Edinburgh one recently .
Overseas, seeing as Vegas is getting mentioned, last year we went to Pahrump Winery for a day out . It’s about 45 miles out of Vegas but the restaurant does a sublime steak list for a fraction of the cost of Vegas .
I have always wondered about Bella Pais. Guess I'd better go!
I must say I find it rather disappointing that all these people recommending their houses aren't including links to the booking page.
I enjoyed Flat Iron too (the Shoreditch one) and LOVED Relais de Venise in Paris a few years back. Must try the London ones.. The 'secret sauce' and the chips are amazing.
I also think I can do a decent steak at home though.. BBQ (Gas, controversially) or fast pan fried very hot in butter on the Aga. A decent Pepper/Brandy sauce is easy to do at home too.
Trattoria Mario in Florence, famous for its bisteca a la Fiorentina but me and the Mrs shared a fillet which was the best steak I have ever had (I’m not a fan of fillet and usually have skirt or sirloin)
A couple of restaurants in Brussels and Vilvoorde (horse eating capital of the world) who’s names I forget but memorable cuts of horse steak that I prefer to beef.
In the U.K. I like Zelman Meats, not an ‘occasion’ restaurant but the steaks really are good and I like the sharing platters of different cuts.
My brother brought home some Kobe Wagyu after his honeymoon in Japan - probably the best meat I’ve ever tried.
As for best cooked steak, I have to rely on my other brother (as I’m not that great regardless of prep) who just makes the best steaks - much better than any of our local restaurants.
It's just a matter of time...
I don’t normally choose a steak when we eat out as I prefer it cooked by my own fair hand but a few memorable steaks have been in Smith & Wollenski and Simpsons both in the Strand, or thereabouts and I seem to remember a great steak Meat Liquor in Brighton, but I was very, very, very drunk...
I can’t remember a enjoying decent steak in the US for years, they look amazing but lack any real flavour in my opinion. It might have something to do with the steroids and growth hormones pumped into the poor beasts over there. It wasn’t always so, I remember as a teenager visiting family in Houston TX in the late 70’s and 80’s and eating in an amazing place called Texas Tumbleweed, this was before Houston was gentrified it was full of oilmen and cowboys (I know I’m making it sound like a gay bar).
I find it odd that all the nicest steaks I’ve had in restaurants, these restaurants are no longer trading, seems crazy as they were superb: The Rare Cow, Writtle, Chop Bloc, Chelmsford, Baumanns, Coggeshall, Criterion, London, Marco Polo, Prague, the Farmhouse, Val d’Isere. Been to some big reputable chains and they’ve not come close. So for me it’s a good Steak from Blixes Farm (Humphreys Butchers) cooked at home.
I’ve not touched rump since!Originally Posted by village;[URL="tel:5549466"
Jocko’s in Nipomo was always worth a trip.
Joes seafood and Steak house takes some beating in Ceasers Las Vegas as does Prime at Belagio
But best steak was at the Imperial Palace, 2am jet lagged and a bit squiffy, 12 of us orders the Chateaubriand, i’m sure it wasn’t the best steak but it was very memorable given the circumstances

Coal Shed in Brighton is as good as I’ve had.
In Edinburgh I think Kyloe is as good as any with Miller and Carter not bad.
Cheers,

Been at Mario's in Florence and they prepare a heavenly bisteca. I am also a regular customer at d'Artagnan, the best place to eat horse steak in Luxembourg. Can only recommend.
Besides that, one of the poorest steaks I ever ate was the first Kobe I tried, must have been 15 years ago at a rooftop restaurant in Bangkok. It was chewy and overcooked - for the princely sum of $100. Had delicious Kobe afterwards, just goes to prove you can screw up any cut if you only try hard enough.
There is a gaff in Spain that uses dairy cows and supposed to be amazing. Can’t remember the name of it though.

The best steak I have had is a Filet Mignon at Le Cellier Steakhouse at EPCOT, Disney World, Florida.
Morton's Las Vegas.
Omnino Leadenhall, small place, but amazing steaks...
Also a big fan of Pasture Their steak is epically good ?

Steak houses come and go so stick with a restaurant that has stood the test of time. Rules in Maiden Lane, London is my place of choice. It is reputed to be the oldest restaurant in London and they have their own cattle herd in Scotland.
There is a private room upstairs which was once privately rented out for many years to Edward V11 as a place for him to entertain his floozies. I have been a guest in this room for years on end for various meetings and the food was unbeatable. I liked their steak and kidney pudding but most of my colleagues opted for the steak.
The ambiance is excellent as the decor is Edwardian.
Well recommended.
Mentioned before but zellman meats in selfridges is amazing, I always go for the picanha and it’s cooked perfect

marchingontogether!
Was in Japan last year and decided to splurge a little when in Kobe. We had a private table and chef, and they had to roll us out. Wallet cried for mercy, but figured I was unlikely to return quite so soon. A5 Wagyu in Kobe itself was a memory not to be forgotten.

Seconding Keens in NY, itself second only to La Cabaña Las Lilas in Buenos Aires. The Argentines do not fool around, grilled steak is a religion down there.
You may have just won this thread!
My steak memory not to be forgotten is this. 13 years ago I spent time in the Andes. From our base on this Gaucho's land, we were treated to a proper asado. Coupled with Malbec and what felt like never ending steak, the environment/setting was unparalleled.
I was in a restaurant next to Macellaio by Southwark yesterday - if we didn't have reservations, I'd be in that as the steaks looked fantastic!!!!!
Also good shout for Zelmans.
Malmaison in Aberdeen used to also do some pretty fine steaks IIRC
They all look superb!!!! I only got as far as a fancy restaurant in Tokyo which specialised in Kobe beef - that was pricey, I shudder to think the price of that meal!
My favourite steak eating experience was in Aruba - a few friends took me to an Argentinian local there - when they don't really mess around with fancy sides you know you're in for a treat. All about the meat. Amazing steak.
We had a table reservation here in August - never got there unfortunately, but I’m hoping to get there a year late.
As for the others that I’ve really enjoyed:
Rythre Arms, North Yorkshire
Blacklock, London
Both Gallaghers & Keens in New York - Gallaghers just tipped it.
In case anyone should be on the north Antrim Coast, the Inn on the Coast does an amazing sirloin, nothing fancy just perfectly cooked and amazing flavour.

Just been to my local butcher where he cut me two 24oz T bones, 7 minutes each side with Rosemary infused oil on the BBQ with flaked sea salt as it rests. Amazing. There is no filter on this pic either, that is legit the meat colour.
A few days later, we returned to Tokyo and I visited the main GS boutique. They had a beautiful JDM forest green Snowflake. I was thinking that the meal would have paid a nice chunk towards it! Here is the watch...
And the meal? c.£1.5k for the 3 of us. (excluding drinks). Buy the experience!
And interestingly, they had posters of their cattle bought at auction!

I’d want the full cow for that

What you want to try, if you haven't already, is Korean BBQ. There is no alternative.
This one is my favourite, it’s in Veurne, Belgium - about 30 mins from the Channel tunnel.

That makes me a little squeamish! As a typical modern human, I’m so far removed from the process of how my meat gets onto the plate, that it would make me slightly sad and put off to see the actual cow I was eating.
Anyway, £1.5K?! I genuinely thought it would be impossible for a meal anywhere to cost that much! I presume the company was paying?! Must have been lovely!
