I went into a shop today and looked at the new Rado Captain Cook...what is the purpose of the Anchor rotating on the face?
I had always assumed that it mimics the way a rotor turns in an automatic watch. It sort of looks like a mini-rotor when you think about it.

I understand it was originally intended as kind of service indicator.
If the oils in the watch dry up, then the anchor will tend to stick or stop rotating.
My Rado True has this feature. I didn’t realise when I bought it. But it’s a nice quirk!
If you go to the EOT forum they have a Rado forum there and Watch Carefully is pretty knowledgeable about them. We have a member here that used to post on the forum quite a bit back in the day.
The link to the info doesn't work now but this will bring you to the forum I am sure someone can provide a link there.

As MDSWatch says, the rotating anchor was originally designed to indicate when a service was needed, but that is no longer the case. It has no function now, but harks back to the earlier models and is a fun detail. It resembles the auto rotor and an anchor - pretty cool IMO.
Rado have always done it and I love them for it. Especially in their Diastar...
It's a nice little feature allied with the potty names like green horse, Golden horse etc make them a bit unusual.
Wanna see my Purple Horse?
Cheers,
Neil.
I’m not sure on its exact purpose, but I think it really finishes off the Captain Cook series of watches in particular.
It’s a welcome design ‘quirk’ in my opinion!

This one?
They’re really great little watches. The perfect pub diver in 37mm.

Here's another 37.3mm diameter example.
A few shots of my 42mm which I sold a couple of months back. Great watch, and very accurate too (within 1spd)
The anchor has a different purpose on different models, for instance on the Captain Cook the anchor will always point to Australia.Originally Posted by Linocut;[URL="tel:5521229"
No, it's the 42mm version. Look at the date window.
