It has been a short while since my last post here, my apologies for the dereliction of duties
Two notable recents were Left Handed Giant Brewery's 'King of the Woodland' Imperial Stout (12.5%, not that you'd ever, ever guess) and Totally Brewed's 'Why So Cereal???' Imperial Cereal Stout, the latter of which was a curious yet delicious mix of stout and breakfast cereal soaked milk (think Sugar Puffs, Shreddies and Cornflakes) on the palate.
These turned up about half an hour ago, Hopsters had a few Verdants delivered this afternoon so I got a few in plus some others. All ales, just different themes, will probably give the stouts a miss for a while now the weather's picking up.
Ale! Ale! Glorious ale!

A trio of Guinness await my pleasure. Is the plural Guinni? Answers on a postcard.

Boy in bed, wife in bath. Bliss.
Oh hang on, he's up again. B#@&*¿s.
Thursday was the new Friday this week. Off work til the 26th now, woo hoo!
Last night was Verdant night.
After another Lightbulb, it was time to try their new Pale Ale, I Will Need Your Signature. Smashed it. So smooth, fruity and juicy I think I boshed this down in about 15mins. Mega!
After it was time for a DIPA, and staying with the Falmouth braumeisters, their West Coaster, Too Many Opinions... much hazier than I’d expect (WC IPA’s should be clear in my opinion, but refined and a shape-shifter of flavours. The piney, resinous bitterness builds and had a long, lingering finish. Lovely.
And as if by magic, TFI Friday!
Had a nice chat with a mate in Abu Dhabi over Zoom with a pint of the marvellous Saltaire Cascade (great beer, such good value from Waitrose/Ocado).
Then it was time for something a bit different, Kernels
Absolutely delicious. Turns out I’ve had a taster before at The Barrel Project taproom in Bermondsey, but this was better than I recalled from my Untappd rating. Really fresh and smooth with oodles of tropical fruitiness. Quality beer.
I snuck in my second tin of Cloudwater & Finback’s “Please Be Lovely To Each Other” Pale Ale to wash down a Pizza Hit Hawaiian, and then motored on to this newbie - Intimately Spaced Pylons - from Verdant...

Sneaky Verdant pale and pie

The Guineas Milk Stout was a fine beer, I don't mind the bitter almost burnt flavour that you get with the Guineas Original in bottles but the Milk Stout was smooth but full of flavour. It had a hint of milky sweetness but was certainly full bodied and I commend it to the house. I'd certainly get it again, it was bought at ASDA and was 4 for £6.

First arrivals of the week...
After a few breakages and chips, I took advantage of these being in a sale (30% off!) and now have glasses for every beer type I like...
Six bottles of Bush Caractere procured from my friendly Belgian mussel restaurant opposite. Hangover looming.

Wrong glass for the Bud. But I do like it. Cheers all.

Adnams Dry hopped lager for me
I like my lagers to be really dry and crisp and unfortunately this is not. It’s a bit sweet. Still drinkable cold though.
Another Munro bites the dust!

Couple of catch-ups from the weekend after that last Verdant from above.
Fancied a cocktail on Saturday night, so after Mrs Works made her signature Gin with rosemary syrup, cucumber and tonic, it was my turn to knock up a Cosmo.
Need to go heavier on the Voddy next time, didn’t quite have enough kick.
Then back to business to accompany the part-smoked/part charbroiled cheeseburgers off the Egg...
Finished up with a treat that’s rare to find over here, this hoppy, dank and resinous DIPA from the US.
Sunday was almost a day of rest, apart from this one from Duration to accompany a Chinese feast...
And finally bang up to date.
Country walk with a pal today - kept our distance of course - great to be out in the East Sussex countryside, and he brought a couple of cold ones too!
And this evening, I enjoyed the first of those sours I had delivered - Peach & Nectarine - and was pleasantly delighted.
...followed by another smooth, resinous West Coast style IPA, this time from Double-Barrelled...
The week off’s going quite well so far.
Some cracking looking beers

Good to see Double Barrel beer, they're a 5-minute walk from my house! Excellent taproom (well, back when such things were allowed) and always have a good selection of beers. Another one worth a look is Siren brewery who have been brewing lots of nice new beers during the lockdown for delivery.
