    Sub on a strap?

The classic look for a Rolex sub is of course on the bracelet. I am thinking of buying a strap for my 14060m and am looking for suggestions/recommendations.

Thoughts and links to what works well on your sub are most welcome - as are pics!

    Sub on a strap?

I’’’d avoid leather, as I don’t think that is appropriate for a divers watch, just my personal opinion though, so feel welcome to ignore

I’’’m awaiting a rubber strap arriving for my Sub, to change it up a bit, but certainly won’t be a classic look.

I’’’ve also put it on a nato strap previously, but preferred the bracelet over that.

The rubber straps look good especially if they fit snug to the case like a bracelet. The issue with straps is the gap left, but that said I have seen plenty of great shots of Subs on straps. Not a huge fan of NATO straps personally.

I don't think water is an issue to most wearers

Aye, the rubber straps I am waiting on are curved to fit my Sub properly.

I will try my nato on a different watch though.

I’m assuming you aren’t wearing it diving so no need for an ugly nato or rubber strap.

I actually think the 14060 looks alright on a dark brown croc strap. It worked for Bond in Dr No.

Personally I think the rubber straps that work well on Subs etc are the shaped straps such as Everest or Rubber B where you lose the gap between case and bars. At £180 a pop they’re not cheap, too pricey to experiment.

I have bought from Tempomat, which was €80. We will see how they perform when they arrive.

    Tell that to Panerai.
Even if I agree with the idea that there are better materials to attach your watch to your wrist if you go diving.

I am not into diving so leather or is fine (in fact probably preferred). I have never got along with nato straps - but there is always a first time. Natos are generally cheap enough to experiment with.

Interesting point regarding the gap between the strap and case I had not considered. Perhaps thicker leather would address the issue?

I have had some really nice straps from so called brand names and find that the Watch doesn't sit flat on my wrist. That can be annoying, especially if you are forever moving it on your wrist to get the best fit. I never seem to have this issue with bracelets though.

I think the most comfortable strap that I have owned was the Omega cordura strap on the Snoopy Speedmaster, which by coincidence is 20mm. I have given thought to buying another and putting it on my SD with a generic deployant. Bonkers I know, but if you find something that actually works...

Erica's Original all the way. It's the only thing I use on my 42mm Explorer 2 and is extremely comfortable.

For some reason I’’’ am in the steel only camp when it comes to subs. Anything else doesn’t look right to me.

Top man. Don't you love this place, you come up a crazy idea of buying an Omega strap for a Rolex and someone else has already done it.

Great to see a pic of how it looks and there is barely a gap either - superb stuff.

I hope you didn't pay a few hundred for an Omega deployant

They are. You can order from any Omega dealer in normal times and they can be bought on e-bay. Not cheap though £250 or so last time I looked.

You can buy the poor man's version, but not as good.

Ouch - not cheap for an experiment. Will look out on EBAY. I am sure I have seen a couple on SC a while ago. may have a go at the 'poor mans version' first

Here's a link to the deployant. Both that and the strap are around €80 or so. Currently out of stock. Again, these appear on e-bay.

Of course I did... to be fair though, I wore it on a Speedy and BLNR as well, so in my head it was justifiable!

Interesting, I thought that strap was a dark burgundy.

Been looking for that strap for ages.

Sub on a bracelet is without doubt the best option imo. They can look ok on a nato or a rubber tropic but leather is a nono. The worst thing would be a mesh which I personally hate on any watch let alone a sub.

Not a Sub but a BB58 on Genuine OysterFlex.

I also have a 16610 and find that it can be quite difficult to put some leather straps on it as there is not much room between case and spring bars.

On the other hand, the BB58 seems to have been designed to be a strap no star as the spring bars are much further away from the case.

    Sub on a strap?

I’m a big fan of the Rubber B.

Had one on my BLNR. Looked great IMHO.

    Fantastic quality. Not cheap mind....

Another vote here for RubberB. I’m a big fan of rubber straps on divers - here’s my DSSD on a RubberB (I know it’s not actually a Sub but you get the idea)...

I don't have any specific suggestions, but a 14060M would look great on most brown or black straps - as long as they're appropriate.

I wouldn't put a more modern diver on a leather strap, but this one looks vintage-y enough to work.

I have no problem with divers on a leather strap - Let's face it 99% of Rolex Subs will never be dunked in seawater - and I find leather the most comfortable option on most watches, personally (although if I'm honest, a quick check reveals NONE of my own divers are on leather!)

If you like it, do it - You can always swap the strap if you are off on a diving trip.

Personally, I've a cheaper watch for UK diving (it's so murky at times, you'd never find a watch if you snagged it and the strap broke) and usually use my Dreadnought Voyager on a NATO in tropical waters - I don't have a Sub, but I wouldn't choose to dive in such an expensive watch, even if it's designed for it, same as I don't work on the car or do the washing up in my vintage Cosmonaute (well, most of the time!).

Mr Dee's Watchgecko strap looks great to me!

Not sure a tropic would suit a modern sub, but it's right at home on vintage

I invariably cut off the extra bit of a nato strap.

Rubber on a dive style watch works well IMHO. For a Rolex i prefer rubber b or similar with curved ends. I recently put my EXP2 onto a rubber strap with straight ends and it is ok but not to rubber b standard. Otherwise a nato can also look good, some great examples earlier on this thread.
