Wow, it's one of those things that looks really weird once spotted.
No idea if it was a mistake or done to prove a point, but surely it can't be released like that.
Anyone else noticed how Montblanc have edited out the existence of the UK from their latest release - the 1858 Geosphere Automatic 24h?

Incompetence or petulance at our escape from the EUrinal?

If it was done on purpose, the horological equivalent of throwing their toys out of the pram, then they left the island of Ireland on, but didn't remove Northern Ireland. Maybe it was a hissy fit but Montblanc are just not that bright perhaps?

I'm not sure about that - it looks to me as if they may have removed the top quarter of the island, but the scale makes it hard to judge for certain. Either way, I guess they would not want to irritate Eire. I'm hoping David Cerrato will comment at some point and clarify how this happened and how many heads have rolled!
Buy one quick!
Could be a collectors piece like a stamp without the Queen's head
Maybe it's to deflect people from how ugly it is?
Talk about air brushing out John Harrison and his legacy.
Horrible watch by the way IMHO.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Best off out of that hideous dial just as were better off out of the EU!
When did it become okay to engage in cheap political points scoring in Watch Talk?
Is this a newly launched model? At the beginning of April perhaps?
Incompetence or petulance at our escape from the EUrinal?[/QUOTE]
Maybe its just a reflection of our status in the world?
Lol!
The bigger problem is why the watch cuts out a huge chunk of the Southern Hemisphere / global south. So if it's political, MB's hit list is UK, Australasia, SE Asia, South America. Classy move MB, especially seeing as how many of those places produce their 'fine/precious/princess-and-the-pea' resin for their pens.
(p.s. I don't think they mean anything by it, it is just bad design!).
That is an astonishing troll move by Montblanc. I'm boycotting them! Not that I've ever bought anything previously...
What really makes me laugh is the ablogtowatch post says nothing about what is missing on the dial. Other than nice product pictures, and ways of knowing new stuff is out, the big watch websites are so lazy.
The conspiracy deepens, it's not just NZ anymore

Whats the political relevance in omitting the UK from the dial?
Thank you for this, it adds to my (rather sad) enjoyment of being wound up by the pretentiousness of Hodkinkee (misspelt on purpose)
"A one-handed watch for your more adventurous side...This probably isn't going to be anyone's first watch, but if you've already got a box of goodies at home, this could be a nice addition that brings something new and more conceptual to your collection."
Sorry for distracting from the thread, but Hodinkee...jeeze.
Ask any German Bielefeld doesnt exist either.

The amount of outrage here is hilarious
I highly doubt this is political, no-one in Europe really cares.
Nice try but it's not really an outrage fest. More a raised eyebrow and a smile from me.
I would guess there is a standard map template. Meaning it would have to be removed.
As for nobody in Europe caring, have you seen the forum content over the last few years? It was the number one topic.
1) he is a newbie so cannot have seen the forum content, especially that part of the forum unless a returning member
2) While your own comment is measured as usual, the obfuscation from some here is clearly visible.
3) Maybe it's a prank, maybe a disgruntled designer, maybe an honest mistake. Really, it doesn't matter
4) To make amends, I am sure Montblanc will produce a Brit-specific version, where the UK will be the only country on the map, surrounded by the ocean.

^Yes, I try not to attribute to malice what can equally be attributed to incompetence.
The only thing I would disagree with you on is whether it matters if it was a mistake or done on purpose.
A small alteration and I'll agree; this is also why it wasn't an option I had listed in my initial post. But I find it highly unlikely: we can expect sweeping political statements from companies like Ryanair or Sports Direct, much less so from a Swiss watch company (Montblanc is German, but started making watches after absorbing Minerva which is based in Villeret, and Montblanc belongs to the very Swiss Richemont Group).
As usual, I'll apply Occam's razor...

Agreed.
And perhaps one thing I should mention (as I think in general we share many views) is that if France had been missed I would feel exactly the same, and would have posted a similar comment.
... and what about Luxembourg?
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
^Yes, I would defend Luxembourg as well.
Although as it's landlocked, MB would have to cut a hole in the map.
