That's a decent piece of news in these interesting times. Everest should be open again by year. I hope that you'll be able to accommodate them, Eddie.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".

Wow, that would be cool.
Very cool.

Skating away on the thin ice of a new day
That would be amazing!

That would be amazing!
Would be great if this could happen.
Chris.
That is a resounding endorsement for Eddie and his resurrection of British watch brand well done Mate
You can expect great things when you make great watches. Looks like Eddie has both. Congrats Eddie and hope that this can happen, the Everest certainly is up to the challenge of going up the mountain bearing the same name.
Eddie what a great story / endorsement. Its a great watch and deserves a good story
Steve
This is absolutely brilliant. I really hope that the summit attempt happens, with an Everest on their wrists. Imagine the positive publicity too! And not a R0£€* in sight.

Mount Everest: Nepal's government shuts off mountain amid virus outbreak

Which 36mm Everest are they after, or do you get to decide Eddie ?
I too have been pondering on the same question. I decided on the PRS-25 36mm Black Dial unless they themselves choose the white dial, given that the original had a white dial. If I was them I would pick the Seafire, you cannot beat a quartz in those kind of situations. But anyway, I think the problem might be, as to whether such a thing as a clear back even exists...?
That's brilliant news. And an achievement to be proud of Eddie. Hope it happens for you.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
The 'Expedition' is the one to go for, surely?

'Hillary' dial pattern Smiths, two similar Bensons, an 'Antarctic' and a Smiths Air Ministry.

If the watch is to actually go up the mountain, shouldn't it have some kind of special oil? The Hillary watch had "a special low-temperature lubricant developed by Smiths" back in the '50s.
In modern times we see that Sinn developed a special oil for low temperature operations

I would hate to see the Smiths breaking down on the mountain because of this detail being overlooked.

My everest crystal popped out just above pangboche, about 1000m lower than base camp.
I also popped the screen of my smartwatch in lukla on the way down....
Not the friendliest of trips for my watches.

That's interesting. I'm a pilot and regularly fly to those altitudes (unpressurised) wearing my Everest and obviously gain and lose that altitude much more quickly than you would climbing up to Base Camp. Just thinking out loud but maybe the cold had something to do with it as well? If the seals are cold are they more rigid and potentially more likely to fail than if the seal is warm as it is where I fly?
Hope you were able to get it fixed?
I picked up the crystal and put it back in place. Then I wrapped the NATO around it and put it in my day pack .
When I got home the crystal was firmly seated.
Complete with a nice film of dust on the underside ....
How's that for a souvenir

Yeah, it's probably a nice story to tell in the future....

Sadly, it looks like the expedition is postponed because of coronavirus

While their post of 15 April begins "It is with much sadness that I announce this year's trip cancelled due to the COV 19 pandemic", it ends with "See you in 2021". According to Eddie's original post "They...hopefully will be on the summit is 2021." Maybe it's still on...but who knows quite what the future will bring?

Any news about this?
Of course, Rolex will spend a lot of time and money implying it was one of theirs.
Spoke to Rolex; they said they would send some camels, but didn't want to go up against Smiths again. Well done Eddie.
Interesting point about the frozen seals. Presumably this is why most expedition watches go up in a pocket and only go onto the wrist for the photo.
I think the mountaineers should get a couple, just in case.
