Pretentious shite.....
A veritable masterpiece now on display at Tate Modern...
Pretentious shite.....
Cheers..
Jase
Clive Tucker has the answer.
F.T.F.A.
It is what people who cant paint, draw, sculpt or anything else have a go at in desperation to avoid manual labour.
It saddens me that some of them succeed...
I would love to know how much it was purchased for back in 2009, I suspect that will remain a closely guarded secret..
By a bullshi**r who has a lot of connections and no talent.
Could be worse, could be someones stinky bed.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
It’s April the 1st, right?
This is the reason, when petal dives left to fawn over some bricks or old pipes when we’re in town, I keep going and shout “see you later”.
Eddie’s rules and all, they stop me at this point.
(It’s a real shame because in between the crap there’s some really worthwhile stuff in the Tate modern.)
Rubbish to me...... never understood modern so called 'art'.
Hmm, let me think.... this "work of art" or this oil painting of a leopard which I bought a few years ago for not very much money. I like to see some skill involved.
Mind you I wasn't impressed with some of the Picassos at the Picasso museum in Antibes. Too many runs...
When challenged somewhat testily by John Humphrys as to why he considered the items he created to be art Damien Hirst once replied, "Because people put them in art galleries."
PS I just googled the latter's name to check the spelling and discovered also that he is reportedly the United Kingdom's richest living artist, with his wealth valued at £215m in the 2010 Sunday Times Rich List.
Blimey I always thought the CoOp as a cheap place, apparently not!
Nice work if you can get it but since we did not “ conceive “ it we do not get it.
But Jase got it spot on.
I FEEL LIKE I'M DIAGONALLY PARKED IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE
Having (last week) spent a day at Vienna’s Historisches kunst museum.....- one of the truly world class art galleries,
It is Arse
No doubt about it
Or if not, it’s all a bit too clever for me.
That’s all
To answer her question, yes white is a colour.
It's achromatic.
That's that solved then.
Not sure why we need the receipt.
+1
I love modern art.
The fact that it makes grumpy bastards fizz, simply does it for me.
It's just a painting/sculpture/installation...just try to enjoy it....don't over think it....
And...who gives a flying fu*k anyway?
Nobody dies.....it's just art, and just because YOU and your mates don't like it, doesn't mean it's dross...
Have at it...
I used to work near the Tate Modern and spent many rewarding hours in there.
But this piece doesn't really appeal.
Is it something you'd buy if you had the money?
Nothing really special about this piece.
I went to see the Damien Hirst exhibit at the Tate a few years back, I have to agree with some pieces, is it really art? That said, the skill that it must take to slice a cow in half and it not end up looking like a dropped kebab.
But a word of warning, I took my son to the Tate and for months after he used “Modern art” as an excuse for everything. ‘Tidy your room it’s a mess” “No dad it’s modern art”.
Emperors new clothes and all that, no one dares say its rubbish...……………………….what else do you do with an old till receipt?
Remember those controversial bricks all those years ago that cost a small fortune? Well, I went to look at them out of curiosity and had a chat with an attendant who disclosed the bricks on show were not the originals! They were all stored away in individually velvet lined boxes in a vault because they were so valuable! Unbelievable, but true.
Your memory is excellent, Niv. That reminds me, I do use the kind gift you sent me. Still owe you something in return.
I tend not to be starstruck but I do have a few regrets about not trying to start a conversation with them as they strolled down Bishopsgate in their tweeds.
My opening line was going to be in regard to their seminal 1969 work which is handily referenced by the Tate.

G&G
A case of the Emperors new clothes, viewed and fawned over by halfwits. In fact that's an injustice to halfwits....
Art is a hugely divisive subject if you let it be.
I daresay there was widespread condemnation of early abstract art (Picasso et al) in the 1920's.
Art doesn't have to be a near photographic interpretation of a subject, it can portray a feeling.
I wouldn't buy a second hand till receipt but it has sparked controversy which is what many artists are really going for.
Look at Warhol, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Pollock etc. Not traditional art but their works fetch millions and have many followers.
Cheers,
Neil.
Art, it seems to me can be reproductive work or work that challenges perception.
The artists work is a challenge to one's introspective view or perspective (the viewer's) of the target object of the work .
I can not see that this challenges any view of a till receipt.
Do not pass go and do not collect £200.
It strikes me that the "artists work" is being misused by the powers that be in the Tate to raise discussion to a controversy level that is for all purposes non existent and to publicise their establishment by machination.
If they leave it for a while under bright light it will fade as they are mostly thermal print - is that the "art" - i think not.
can anyobe else see a deeper target objective ?

I think the absence of tampons and panty liners detracts hugely from the integrity of this piece.
I donate this artwork to the forum. It's called Work1.
^Can you give us some idea of the concept behind it?
It might make the auctioneer's job easier later on.
Give a piece of Modern Art a story, statement or evoke an emotion / reaction and you give it a price tag.
Not a black and white as that though. I don't appreciate that piece, I wouldn't label it as art myself. Yet a gallery has, and it's sparked a discussion on a non-art related internet forum. So whether we like it, or not, it has become a talking point and made us question what we all think art is. And there's some art in that.
Also most art works are usually part of a wider body of work, which may offer a clearer understanding of the individual piece, where the artist may be working with a concept or reoccurring theme, exploring that theme in different media.
The skill in Art has developed from being literal pictorial representations, to allow concepts or ideas to become the art - although these still exist of course. Art has something for everyone and can be over intellectual if that’s your bag!
