POSTSCRIPT - Fantastic Result - CLIC Sargent and Samaritans Charity Raffle

Charity Raffle for CLIC Sargent and Samaritans

Newmark 71 Reissue, Newmark 6BB Chronograph, Rodina Automatic and a Splendid Strap Package

This fundraiser is for two charities devoted to helping people who are going through the toughest of times. Donations to the VMG fundraising page will be split equally between the two charities. https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Som...cial/Listening

Up for grabs are a pair of Ewan’s finest which are very well respected in these parts, punching well above their weight. Once again some generous members have added to the prize pot, and as usual you can expect for some other consolation prizes to appear as we go along.

CLIC Sargent fights tirelessly to stop cancer destroying young lives and were instrumental in supporting us through the toughest days of Laura’s treatment. CLIC continue to encourage her rehabilitation through listening and reacting to her input to their Children’s Advisory Group.

Samaritans vision is simply that fewer people die by suicide. Volunteers work around the clock to listen to and support those in crisis. Over five million calls are answered annually. They run 201 local branches and carry out community outreach work and national awareness campaigns to try to prevent people from reaching breaking point. Funds donated to Samaritans Central Office will be used all over the UK.

    The Raffle

To take part, please post in this thread and donate* £5 per entry here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Som...cial/Listening

Feel free to take part multiple times and if you are not interested in the prizes, you are very welcome to donate anyway!

Please include your TZ-UK user name in the comments if it's not obvious. I’ll maintain a list of the participants here.

Laura will personally draw the winners on Monday 17 February.

    The Prizes

    1. Newmark 71 Reissue
    2. Newmark 6BB Chronograph
    3. Rodina Automatic donated by Jeremy67
    4. Super Strap Package donated by Sinnlover
    5. Casio G-Shock GD-100 donated by badger1
    6. Longitude Book and DVD Bundle
    7. Rolex Gustbuster Umbrella donated by gcleminson

Newmark 71 Reissue bought here. I’ve just worn it once to check it out, it’s a cracker with fantabulous lume and as good as new. Classic look with black dial, 60 minute bezel and no date. Full bracelet and tropic strap included.

    More info here:
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...-watch-reissue
    https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...mark-71-Launch

Newmark 6BB Chronograph bought here. Also only worn by me once and pretty much pristine. Admiralty Grey and Cordura Straps included.

    More info here:

    https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...aph-Re-Edition

Jeremy67 has kindly donated a lovely Rodina Automatic which certainly has something of the Bauhaus about it.

38mm diameter but wears large. Pretty good condition with a few small scuffs on the case and bezel, and an unmarked crystal. It has a display back so you can see the Seagull ST1701 movement with "Shanghai striping". Comes on a fairly well worn Timefactors Darlena strap. Original box and unworn strap included, which Jeremy assures me is far too nasty to wear.

Sinnlover has generously donated a splendid strap package consisting of:

    26mm Ericas - unworn
22mm Black leather from a little leatherworker in Saigon - unworn
20mm Uncle Seiko tropic - unworn
20mm Zulu Diver canvas - tried on once

badger1 has kindly added a Casio G-Shock GD-100 in good nick, which is a great travel beater. Original box but no manual (readily available on t'internet).

I've added a small consolation prize of a Longitude book and DVD bundle. Brand new, delivered to your door.

Massive thanks to all supporters, and of course to Eddie.

    Matthew and family

Great stuff, and thanks for the info. I know that some overseas members often have issues.

If anybody has difficulties making a donation please let me know. I'm more then happy to assist via our PayPal/Virgin Money Giving account.

I've just updated the participant list. Many thanks for the anonymous donations, which are listed to help me to keep track but won't go into the hat unless I hear otherwise.

For anyone not aware of Laura's story and have access to the Bear Pit, there is some background in this thread that I started around halfway through her treatment for kidney cancer: https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...rsonal-Message

To be clear, all donations will be split equally between the two charities.

    Many thanks, Neil.

I put that thread in the BP to allow the use of strong language and to keep it from the open area at the time, but totally appreciate why many forum members avoid the place.

There are a few posts in there that explain why we think that CLIC Sargent is such a great charity. Laura's wonderful CLIC nurse was an absolute pillar of support, going out of her way to make special home visits when the hospital port access procedure had become dreadfully traumatic. She provided unstinting emotional support for all of us and was a massive calming influence, good humoured guide through the darkness, and an inspiring role model.

Most people have been touched in some way by the tragedy of a suicide, it is the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. We lost our dear friend Ian in January six years ago and we will always remember him with affection tinged by a great sadness. Samaritans provide somewhere to turn to for anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide.

Massive thanks again. There’s still a week to run, and I’m sure that there are still a few members of this fine community who might like to participate. The two organisations really make a huge difference to a great many people.

If the Newmarks aren’t your thing, or you already have one, you only have to run a quick search to see how highly regarded they are and how quickly they get snapped up when they appear on SC. Either would make a great gift and you’ll have no problems moving one on.

I’m very clear that I expect any winner to do whatever they want with a prize, just as though they had bought it themselves.

Still a few days to go - chance to win a nice watch and help these really worthy causes for the price of a glass of wine or box of chocolates.

I'm adding another small consolation prize of a Longitude book and DVD bundle. Brand new, delivered to your door.

If you've already got them, or don't have a DVD player, or can't read, I'll come up with an alternative
