re: panama jacks
I bought some of the panama jacks igloo small boots/ high shoes and like the warmth i got from them.
Just bought the panama jacks aviator boots but the amount of fur in them is less than the igloo.
Is this because i got a non winter boot?
or is it a case of cost cutting on the lining with the boots?
thanks for your time
Martin

I can't say it was high on my list of priorities, but I was cycling around Kingston today late in the afternoon, and noticed John Lewis was open. A quick browse and I picked these up these for the grand sum of £41.70.
It's been 30 years since I last had a pair of DMs when I was a university.
Nice! I wish you well with your new purchase! I've owned many pairs of DM's (both shoes and boots) back in the 80's. I think they were UK made back then? I found them to be great but then stopped wearing them for many years. I then got the 'I wants' for some 1460's again so purchased a new pair (not UK made?). I can only say that they were instruments of torture to me and despite using DM socks and trying to wear them in I just couldn't live with them so sold them on. Not to be deterred I bought a pair of Solovair boots which I hoped, being UK made would be a trip down memory lane - absolute nightmare so they had to go as well - sore feet and blisters!!
Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age but I might try one more time with a pair of 'air sole' shoes!
Yep, but I guess that’s how they can sell a pair of Goodyear welt boots for an RRP of £139. Quality of the leather and construction appears very good.
My Grenson Stanley’s (made in India) are much better than a couple of pairs of same price Loakes I have (made in UK). You need to be paying £400+ for the good Made in England boots.
Anyway, get yourself down to John Lewis Kingston m if you fancy a pair of 1460s at a knockdown price (70% discount). A fair few sizes left.
Anyone seen any deals on Crockett and Jones consiston?

Any chance of a link Andy?
The expectations for a £40 boot are pretty high. I'd prefer my boots weren't made in China either but for £40 I wouldn't care less.
Got myself a pair of Danner Bullrun a few weeks back. Impressed so far

I got mine from here. They were the last pair. There is a further 5% off for first orders. The prices are also in euros.
The below has them at full price with 10% off your first order.

I did find another website through Chrome rather Safari which has them reduced with the added bonus of a free gift. I can’t find it on my phone though.

Thanks Andy
THESE are proper winter boots...
waterproof, windproof, as comfy as slippers and cool AF.
Only really useful on a snowboard, though, although I 'can' just about drive in them.

After eight years and one resole my Dubarry boots have given up the fight,Redbacks for now.
I've mentioned these before - a steal for £80:

I've had these for around fifteen years now, bought when Timberland still made quality boots. They've been worn thousands of times yet the heel and sole show hardly any wear and the leather is still excellent with no cracks or tearing from the join with the sole. They've just been waxed and coated with mink oil, ready for another few years of wear. I'd say that was £140 well spent.
The day I bought them in John Lewis there was an old fella trying a pair on next to me and he came in wearing his old sand colour boots that he'd had for 19 years!
I have two pairs of Timberlands in the bog standard colour. One pair has furry toe caps from when I cleaned them with a Karcher after I'd done the patio and the left boot has a solid black line over it from the gear shift on motorbikes over the years, you wouldn't give them to a homeless person. The other pair is pristine and hasn't been worn much, just not the same quality as the old ones at all.
I either wear the battered old Timberlands or some half decent Red Wings. Anything really, just not really the new Timberlands which have been "new" for three or four years now.
Gregson Freds got a walk out recently...
