The unified Grand Seiko in the window thread

    Well, why not.

I popped in to Deacons this afternoon to pick up the little quartz GS from an eye-wateringly expensive service with Seiko, and while I was there they were keen to show me a blue snowflake SBGA407 spring drive that they've just got in.

    Absolutely stunning piece.

Apparently they'd reserved it for a customer but they'd pulled out.

If only i had more money and more wrists...

As an aside, they said that they had had a red-dialled SBGH269 hi-beat but it had sold in a week or so. Thought it was worth asking though.

I regret to say that customer was, thanks to FFF’s input earlier this week, me. But then this came up by chance. Smitten.

In the metal it looked a lot bluer; all of the photos I've seen are just off white

It's the SBGX009 that has, I believe, been a bit of a forum tart over the years and has been a little "problematic" and has been in the wars a bit.

In the 4-ish years that I've had it, it's been fine until a few months ago when, despite a battery change the time keeping became somewhat erratic.

On the basis that without getting properly fixed it was simply ornamental and only right twice a day I bit the bullet and had it sent to Seiko.

It's back, working, lightly polished and my wallet is £448 lighter

Thats probably true as no doubt I will move it on as I do with every other watch I have owned. This one is taking a bit longer, albeit I have only worn it 4 times but picked it up and looked at it 400 times.

Handled the new Godzilla ltd edition GS yesterday. OMG that is awesome. But it's over £11k and that doesn't represent value at all. But the watch itself is gorgeous

Mental pricing. Even an £11k new car would hold more value. Also what were they thinking having a clear case back then covering it entirely with Godzilla. Nonsense.

Chisholm Hunters in Manchester the other day.

A fair selection, although they didn’t have the one I wanted to try on.

Apparently they shouldn’t have the blue snowflake.

It’s gorgeous, isn’t it. I preferred that to the blue one they have.

Oof for a Quartz! Did they break down the cost of that?

Of course not, that's the basic GS quartz service charge.

They'd have broken down the cost of additional parts if required but thankfully it didn't need any

Apparently the blue dialled one sold about an hour after I went in yesterday.
They still have the white one though.

Just home from a week in Japan and it felt like Grand Seiko was being promoted everywhere I went. Seiko must be investing massively into promoting and elevating not only GS but Seiko's profile too. Saw lots of lovely watches in my travels, there are so many variations and JDM releases that it all becomes a bit of overload and you lose track. The highlight, however, was a rose gold version of my GS SBGC003 Chronograph. It was stunning and should be at 3.3 million Yen

So I bought Godzilla in the end. Long story short I got a belting 'one off' deal due to a relationship with a fellow tz-er which meant I got nearly £4k off RRP. That made it a no brainer as these aren't getting discounted and I'd imagine will hold value.

SBGA405 and is 44.5mm but wears smaller like a BP 50 fathoms.

I'm really enjoying the Godzilla watch of course even though I don't really associate Godzilla with it. But I was having a chuckle to myself last night that Grand Seiko has stayed away from any corny tie-ins until now unlike Omega and Tag (Bond, Snoopy, Ultraman, Alex Monopoly, Steve McQueen etc) and then suddenly one day it was 'GODZILLA WATCH!!!' LOL

Whenever quoting I usually remove the picture not to requote it, but in this case it's worth leaving in. That watch really is an eye-catching beaut.

It is a corker of a watch. Red isn't my colour and it doesn't strike me as a daily wearer but it's unlike anything else out there and not like anything else in the GS range. The blue snowflake is seriously nice but a blue version of the snowflake the Godzilla isn't a version of anything it's just wild. Very cool.

I have gone from loathing to loving this edition. Ryan, do you happen to have a picture of the clasp? Sometimes a let down on some GS models I feel.

You know what mate, I was 'meh' when it first came out but then Kash got one and was raving about it. Now I have it I think it is one of the nicest watches I've ever handled let alone owned. But it is niche. For me it kills the necessity to have a Hublot-type piece in the collection as it nails that role of cool weekend watch without being too avant-garde. Is it worth the money? Well it costs the same as a Hublot Big Bang and is unquestionably of a higher quality so I guess relative then yes. Is it worth £6k more than a GS Snowflake? Nope.

The unified Grand Seiko in the window thread

The SBGC231 I used to own, was much more practical - chronograph and GMT, in just a couple of mm thicker 200m WR case.

Yep, that works. Much better than my SBGY003, which is a tad industrial.
