Martyn’s “Should I / Shouldn’t I” thread led me to dig out my old DateJusts. Classic, timeless design. Perfectly sized for any wrist at 36mm and huge variety because of the many dial/bezel/bracelet variations. They are still (in my opinion) great value for money. Anyway, here’s my small collection of vintage DateJusts from the 1960’s and 1970’s.
1969 black dial ref 1601
1969 brown dial ref 1603
1972 grey sign dial ref 1601
1978 linen dial ref 1601
1978 Buckley dial ref 1603
1971 WideBoy dial ref 1601
1972 black dial ref 1600
1968 blue dial ref 1600
All together…
That’s a spectacular collection you have there. Fab!

These are such classy watches and perfectly sized (for me) at 36mm.
I'd be interested in your thoughts on the current Datejust 36mm. I think the slimmer lugs of the latest incarnation are a big improvement.
Stunning collection. I’ve always been a huge fan of the datejust. Haven’t owned one yet .
Wow, what a beautiful classic collection.

Timeless classics!
Wow is all I can say!
What a super collection. I love that 1601 sigma. Was that colour called 'London sky'?
Love them
Great collection

The first one is particularly lovely... would you say you now have enough for the non-quickset date not to be too much of a pain?
Nice collection, covers most bases/variants. The blue dial’s particularly nice.
The linen dial one is nice and 36mm is the perfect size.
What a fabulous collection.
I’ve also got a Buckley dial DJ on jubilee and it’s so comfortable I once got to work with two watches on the same wrist because I didn’t notice that tucked up my shirtsleeve was my Datejust.
Love the blue dial version but I’d be happy with any from your collection. Lovely.
Timeless design.
Fabulous collection - love that Buckley dial.
Why "wideboy"?
Lovely collection, I do regret trading my Buckley dial 16030.
Love that Linen Dial.
Fabulous collection John
It's quite astonishing the difference the bracelet design makes.
More obvious when you view the series quick fire.
Wouldn't have thought it could change a watch head so much.
Thanks

I do like the current 36mm Datejust, but I’m not sure that i would buy one, the charm and character of a four digit reference will win every time, for me.
I’m not sure about the London Sky reference, but the grey sunburst dial is beautiful (and very difficult to capture in a photo).
Good point, I hadn’t thought of it that way. Although I have to say, as a long time vintage watch wearer, the lack of a quickest date stopped bothering me many years ago.
Thank you. Wideboy refers to the wide hour markers and matching wide handset. It is my favourite, by some margin.
That’s just plain greedy John! Lovely DJ SOTC..
Superb collection congrats
The linen dial has so much appeal! It’s beautiful and I’m sure it’s very versatile on straps

Lovely collection, so much choice 🤤
I’m starting to think that the Datejust is my favourite watch. Loving the look of that blue dial!

The linen dial stands out and is particularly nice! Well done!
Lovely! My favorites are the grey and blue.
Love the grey dial. Beautiful!
Great collection - all lovely but the linen dial is the pick of the bunch for me, I'd have one of those in a heartbeat.
Seems lıke a watch for a day in february 👏👏👏👏
Great collection. Love the linen dial. Rolex should definitely revive those...
