‘Max’ having a kip
I feel your pain my friend.....I lost Stella last Thursday to cancer and other related symptoms. She was given 3-6 months life expectancy but soldiered on for nearly a year. She was just shy of 15 years old and my best friend, she came to work with me (in an office!) every day since she was 6 months old. She was amazing with my now 6 year old daughter from the day we brought her home from hospital, they call them nanny dogs for a reason. Tries to prepare myself but even a week later I’m sobbing while typing this. I posted pics of her earlier in the thread but here she is one last time. Cherish Dolly every day and spoil her rotten. No one will ever convince me there’s a better breed than the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

‘Max’ having a kip
I'm very sorry to hear that, my sincere condolences at this very sad time.
So sorry to hear about Dolly and I hope you can look back on all the joy she brought to your lives when the pain starts to go away. I know how you are feeling.
Just catching up on this thread...so so sorry to hear about Dolly and Stella, they are so much part of the family and I can only imagine your loss...massive thoughts with you all. I have a 5 year old Coton du Tulear (Minnie) who is my best pal..snoozing at my feet as I type, their love and compassion is irreplaceable.
I lost my 11 year old Rotty a few weeks back and I had been struggling a bit coming to terms with it , it was like losing a best mate but a few nights ago I saw this little bundle of joy advertised and had to go and have a look, needless to say I picked her up the next afternoon.
After over 20 years of having Male Rotties I think a Border Collie is going to be a slightly different experience but it looks like she's settled in nicely, tail never stops wagging and she seems really alert and willing to please so looking forward to many happy years with her by my side.

Sorry for your loss. We had a few Rotties when I was young. Best mates indeed, but not the brightest of the bunch, is my experience.
Nowadays, a family that lives close to me, has two Border Collies. 'The other end of the spectrum' so to speak. Those are só intelligent! The love to be challenged: dog puzzles, trail seeking etc. I suppose it's going to be a whole new experience.
Anyway, enjoy the time with your new friend.

Thanks Menno, yes mine were all very good guard dogs but not very good at grasping much else but probably more my fault than theirs. I think this border collie thing is going to be a whole new ball game.
A few more pics of our Gypsy,
Beautiful little thing, looks very alert.. as old joke goes I always wanted one, not sure if I want to have a dog which is much smarter than me though

Indeed, alert. Like he's saying: "I can't understand you yet, but I'm sure you want to tell me something!"

This thread is my 'go to' feelgood top up.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Poor old Dot, and a timely warning about ticks.
Last Saturday afternoon we came back from our walk and later she was suspiciously rather downcast lying in her bed.
When I checked her over the side of her face had blown up like a balloon!
There was a tick on her head which we quickly removed, and with our vet being closed we were pointed to an emergency vet in nearby Caterham which we took her too. The vet diagnosed anaphyclatic shock and gave her a steroid jab and antihistamine and told us to give her hay fever tablets until her face went down.
It all worked. After £250 and a good nights sleep she was back to her normal self.
Dot sometimes picks up ticks from the long grass but they are easily spotted through her spiky piggy fur and easily removed. Must be so difficult on a furry dog.
Here's a frightening pic of my little darling in the vets.
Cheers,
Neil.
Glad she's ok that's a hell of a swelling!! Our boy has the same fur and loves running through long grass.
Had a similar sort of problem with him and off to the emergency vet near Manchester for us.
His eye was swollen and bloodshot but the lotions and potions the vet gave us did the trick.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes re Dot.
She's fine now.
Keep your eyes peeled for ticks!

3 years he has been with us now. The misses found him abandoned and he is her absolute shadow.

Did your wife find him in person? I'm in the dogswatch group on facebook which seems to deal with rescue / strays from europe. My wife isn't keen on this as it looks like you don't actually get to meet the the dog until you pick it up. She prefers the idea of using local rescue centres but obviously there is a more limited choice with them.
We live in Cyprus so he was a stray that needed a home.
We help with local dog rescue and when possible help the lad who relocates dogs back to uk. Like the group you follow they only ever match the dogs correctly as a bad match isn't helping anyone.
We had a rescue dog back in blighty and would only ever rescue. They all need a forever family.
