I assure you my intention is not to be pedantic or nit-pick, but the mention of Red Adair brought to mind this old Rolex advert, where his choice* of watch might surprise, in terms of being pretty far from a sports model (*I caveat this because Rolex marketing can be rather disingenuous, so there's every chance the closest it got to a fire was an Adair family BBQ):

As already touched-upon, the point is that Rolex as a brand set their stall out early around water-resistance, accuracy, longevity and every-day, every-man use, and your Oyster Perptual Date is exactly how a Rolex should look, in my opinion: classic, classy, legible, well-used & enduring.

Actually just sold it though and am on the wait list for a Submariner no-date (might be a long wait!)

That advert is very well known, hence my reference to the great man ;)

This Explorer was my first Rolex and love it so much.

Then I tried the Milgauss at the AD and mesmerized by how beautiful the whole thing look.

I had to be in a Westminster for a meeting yesterday afternoon so phoned Rolex in St James Square to enquire about a Pepsi bezel then dropped in for one to be fitted. After 21 years with a black bezel I’m still very happy with this:

Any reason you didn't ditch the 1166660 after getting the 126660?

    Show your Rolex.

    My ‘collection.’

You can really see how ‘butch’ the SD43 is. But the DayDate 40 is still heavier.
It’s only weakness, to me, is the lack of an adjustment on the ‘hidden clasp’ bracelet.

But Rolex is Rolex, they do what they want.

Yes. It was worn pretty much every day when I first got it. My son was a new born and he was fascinated by it, always looking at it and grabbing it.
I plan to give it to him in the distant future. His birth year watch.

30 posts ago I showed the GMT that I'd sold and my hope of getting a Submariner no date. Here is my new love, and hoped-to-be watch for life (at least for now )

The 116619LB “Smurf” has relegated every other Rolex to the watchbox. Love this piece because it is a classic Sub, but the heft reminds you it is valuable and special even when not looking at it, and the blue and white gold hue is mesmerising.

    Show your Rolex.

I had one of them....the 116509. Brilliant watch by any standard. The blue dial is a real treat in different light.
As you’l know, John Meyer singled it out, and now they are hard to get. To me, one of the best-looking Rolex Models of recent years.

    But I’m biased.
No idea who j Meyer is but blue dial + Daytona + lower than retail : what could go wrong??

John Mayer (my spelling mistake )is an American musician and very influential watch guru. He recently made a video about Daytonas, and singled out your white/gold blue dial model, and a yellow gold/green dial model. Prices for these models in the US have gone nuts.
Such is life among the lemmings.
It was a lovely watch before, it’s a lovely watch now.
