No order but currently
Toast of London
Inbetweeners
The IT crowd
Red dwarf. It hasn't aged as well as some on the list but I still love it.
Da Ali G show. Some of the gags were epic fails but it makes my list for Borat alone. Plus some of the "serious" interviews he did were just too funny for words. How did sasha baron cohen keep a straight face? It was first on while I was still at college and i had forgotten all about it really but they put the full series on Comedy central recently and I died laughing at every episode.
Finally Inbetweeners or IT crowd .... probably IT crowd because the other one hits a little bit too close to home for me!!! 😂😂😂
Kev just beat me to Red Dwarf. I think it is still very watchable, but only up to and including series 6. Went badly off the rails after that imho.
Men behaving badly.
Dad's army.

I'm Sorry, I Haven't A Clue
Then I start to get a bit stuck. There were so many excellent comedies which were hilarious when they were first aired, but were very much "of their time". Watch some of them now and they're rather cringeworthy.
I'd probably go for The Fast Show to make up my three.
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Nope really can't just pick 3 but for me Spitting Image is worthy of a mention.
Blackadder
Yes Minister
One Foot in the Grave
Why are you limiting me to three? You're not my mum.
No fans of Father Ted? The Good Life?
Good 'modern' comedies include Phoenix Nights, The IT Crowd, The Inbetweeners, Friday Night Dinner, Catastrophe.
Did anyone watch Spaced? Oddly good, not quite too 3 though

Friday night dinner was great as was The Detectorists but not top 3 for me, but certainly top of the pile in recent years, Catastrophe was also funny.
Fawlty Towers
Blackadder (bar series 1)
The League Of Gentlemen
Honourable mentions for:
Reginald Perrin
Yes Minister/Prime Minister
Only Fools And Horses
Porridge
One Foot In The Grave
The Office
Any love for “ Game on”?. I thought the first series with Ben Chaplain was the best and as a teenage lad watching it I really fancied Sam Janus who’s character was a bit of a slapper really.
I’m a massive peep show fan so that and the office would be in my top three.
Nighty night was dark and twisted and I love everything Julia Davis does so that’s up there for me.
Personal thing but for me it's
Only fools and horses
Gavin and Stacey
The IT Crowd
But the inbetweeners, auf weidersen pet, faulty towers, porridge, keeping up appearances, Phoenix nights, yes minister, dads army and the brittas empire all get honourable mentions!
I enjoyed outnumbered
And the muppets of course
Please don't say they're American
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
I'm a huge fan of many of the comedies mentioned. One that has not been mentioned, which we really enjoyed, is Teachers.
Faulty Towers

Not many of the originals remain - apparently thrown out of BBC archives.
They are my B&W comedy classics
Just looking through the thread again, and it strikes me that nobody has mentioned what I always think of as the quintessential British comedy act - Morecambe and Wise.
And it hasn’t aged terribly well. I personally struggled to find it genuinely funny when I discovered them in the late 90s.
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.
Does anyone remember "filthy rich and catflap"?

Only fools and horses, Porridge, Blackadder goes forth and Dads Army stand out for me but Monty Pythons Life of Brian is the funniest film.
Dad’s Army and Blackadder top 2 for me. Third not so easy but maybe Peep Show.
Dad’s Army is one of the few old comedies that has aged well IMO.
