I think one on the left is from 2006 and the one on the right is from 1989.
99 = UK (national identification in NATO stock numbering system).
Is the 89 fatter than the 06?
These progressed from fat, mid-fat to thin, but I can’t remember the years.

As you do it, listen to strap crying, knowing that it will never be fitted to another watch, ever again. If it can't make it on a G10, it can't make it anywhere.
When I bought that watch, it was still covered in proper authentic military filth. I do apologise for scraping it off.
Proper job dave

Very nice! I like the braided strap. Is it a 19mm?
This may be of interest.

Do Eddies open ended leather straps fit through the bars OK?
I've just written a post on my blog about the fat case G10's (see here). What you describe as mid is only about 1mm thinner than full fat. I have one full fat, issued in 1982 and a pair of the slightly thinner examples, one from '83 and one from '84. My understanding is that the mid-case continued until 1987 when the current slim case was introduced.
Slim, bottom; full fat middle, semi-skimmed top.
