My dad bought this yesterday, for the money it’s really quite good. Felt decent enough quality and really comfy with the rubber strap.

Parents are visiting and my mum wants to buy a new watch for my dad .
Budget is sub £200.
He is currently wearing this ...
My first suggestion is a Timex Marlin .
Any other suggestions?
He has few preferences and doesn’t mind date / numerals / strap but I think new rather than vintage .

After showing him some pictures it seems he does have some preferences-
34-40 mm max
Indices not numerals
Gold or silver tone not colors
Bracelet preferably or leather
So pretty much same look as the 60 yr old watch above .
So much do I don’t really mind .
Going to show him some Seiko 5’s
That is a lovely, well worn and loved watch.
If you want to stick with mechanical then there is also the Seiko 5 range at a similar price point. I'm not sure which micro brands, if any, have models in that price range.
If you go quartz then your options will increase dramatically.
I'm in a similar position with my Dad, in his 80s now, as he finds that his current watch, only a year or two old, isn't legible any more, particularly under poor light. Obviously I don't know how old your dad is but I thought that this might be worth brining up.
Plus, I think it is has been brought up elsewhere on the board, you might want to think about how suitable an automatic would be, depending on how active your Dad is. I'm not sure if mine would be able to keep one running, may be now but perhaps not in a year or two.

He is 82 and reasonably active but has no issues with the replacement being quartz.
He did have 4 watches in his drawer but this is the only one left working and he doesn’t want to wear it every day.
I know that here the rrp is about double your figure but not sure how local tax free pricing works, discounts and or budget elasticity
So is a tissot visodate of any interest?
Edit: I see that now do an quartz version closer to budget.

My dad wears a Tissot PR 100 every day (a gift from my mum). Quartz, 39mm, and about on budget. There are a few models to choose from.

At half the budget any of the Seiko SGG range at Creation. Well under 40mm, titanium, sapphire, good WR, decent movement. Outrageous for the money, really.

Edit : as above 👍🏼
Quartz and high contrast would seem to be the main requirements so the Mondaine Swiss Railways watch is an obvious contender:

I’ve also shown him Orient Bambino , they are now having a think .
There is an AD for Tissot and Hamilton here but not much else in this price bracket that is worth considering.
I'll never get tired of recommending Citizen Eco-Drive:

Why not have that watch serviced and cleaned up, and have a new leather strap fitted?

Quartz Certina on leather is in budget.

I'll throw Bulova into the ring as well, some very nice simple designs in amongst their more out there designs and their UHF / precisionist watches are pretty unique with a near springdrive like second hand (16 ticks per second i believe)
here's one that may suit.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have given my mum a series of links - they can see a couple of brands here and will look at more when they get back to the UK.
They are of an age where this is not something they would buy online .
I have found a 70’s Bentima for sale which looks rather like what he has so I may buy that for him and let mum buy him a modern quartz.
Decision made , they went for Citizen - ecodrive Stiletto.
Nice looking , simple and he’s happy.
Nice choice - smart, super legible and never needs a battery change.
