I really fancy the dlc version, have the steel positive version incoming as a present for my son and will see what a difference the newer lcd makes. Always found the negative versions very hard to read - does stn make much difference irl?

Was the Gorillaz GX GX56BBGRLR-1ER available on the website as I can't seem to see one for sale other than one on ebay?
Fresh out of the box, this thing is brilliant !
Even better on fresh GW-5000 strap ;)

So effectively a resin version of the full metal square? Still not sure if it has stn display like the metal squares, conflicting info on the web.

That's the Russell one? I believe they were on the website for pre-order along with the Noodle version for a brief time on the 15th November, the site issues meant I couldn't get a hold of either. More stock will be available to buy on the 15th December when these are actually released.
Hope this helps.
I had a chance to see the all black and silver versions in a local ‘Ernest Jones’ and whilst the positive lcd really looks noticeably clearer I couldn’t see any real difference to a standard lcd on the negative one. It looked maybe a tiny bit crisper but still hugely less legible than the standard silver version. If my eyes were 10 years younger maybe not an issue but as a 40 something negative lcds are still a no for me, even stn versions apparently mind you the black and silver both look great, the gold just looks like the love child of c3po and a 5600, just sooooo gold

My first G-Shock...
New contact lenses mean I can actually read a digital watch so I thought I'd celebrate and picked this up on Amazon.
Love the ZULU strap.... not a fan of the resin alternative.
Congrats @solwisesteve on your first G. Enjoy

thinking ahead to two years from now when the battery goes.... what's the normal policy wrt battery replacement?
Do it yourself and a thin smear of grease on the seal?
Find a shop and get them to do it and charge more than the watch cost?
Throw away and buy a new one?
Firstly, the battery in all my 5600’s has lasted well in excess of 2 years. Unless you use the light and alarm multiple times every day, you’re looking nearer to 5 years in reality, and this seems to be common according to my own experience and across the net. To change the battery, simply unscrew the 4 screws on the caseback, replace the battery, tiny tiny smear of silicone on the gasket, be careful not to over tighten the screws and you’re good for another 5 years. I used to send mine back to Casio uk who were very reasonable but it’s so easy to do yourself. Enjoy your G, they deserve their reputation imho!

Never had to do an ac reset, always been a case of pop in the battery job done. Be careful not to lose the little spring that presses against the caseback for the beeper.

Is there a GShock available with a compass function currently? Had a look online but it’s not glaringly obvious!

The Protrek is 47mm but seems to wear more like 44mm.
The big difference is depth which is around 13mm which makes it wearable unlike the Rangeman GPS i had which is over 19mm in depth.
