Last year I bought the penultimate, reduced bottle of Hibiki 12 from Tesco. I'd gone in for the Talisker 10 but it was OOS. I happened to see two bottles of Hibiki 12 in the reduced section at £35 down from £50, so I bought one as it wasn't much more and I'd always wanted to try some Japanese whisky. Got home, opened it, tried it and loved it, and I went back the next day for the other bottle, but it had gone. It seems it's been discontinued, which for me is a shame as it's one of the nicest blended whiskies I've ever tasted.
My only proper bottle of Japanese Whisky.. Don't think I'll ever sip this.. Pure liquid gold.
Strong stuff. Or maybe it was just too early in the day to start on 51% + :)
Even better Nikka in my local Japanese restaurant.
Had the opportunity last week to drink a glass of the Yamazaki 18 Year Mizunara Cask which currently sells for about £2000 a bottle.
Have to be honest and say, even as a fan of Japanese whisky, I was pretty underwhelmed.
I wanted to try it to see really whether it justified the hype.. but at £63 a glass, it had some big expectations to fill and they simply did not get matched.
Just returned from Japan and visited the Yanazaki distillery again. Great fun especially the tasting bar. It has become a lot more popular in the last five years especially with foreigners but at least had an English audio guide now. Bought this limited edition 2017 bottle, smooth and rich.
Stock is running low!

Suntory Hakushu 12
Just bought the last bottle in the "Whisky Shop" in York.Chatting with a Japanese tourist whilst in the shop,he said it's no longer available once all bottles sold.
So sadly won't be opening this bottle,it will go in the case with my other 5 no longer in production and bought 10 years ago.
£5 off at Waitrose. Used vouchers for an extra fiver so £28 each. Not bad at all.
Thanks for the tip, I have some John Lewis vouchers i can use. £33 on amazon, so the same price?
