It’s a handsome watch, congratulations!
Hi all
First and most important - this post has Eddie's blessing! Wouldn't want to upset him ;-)
OK, I just wanted to give awareness that the Newmark 6BB Chronograph which I have been working on for what seems far too long is going to be launched on Kickstarter during the final week of August; the actual date to be confirmed but likely 28th or 29th. We have a mailing list sign up which can be accessed at https://www.newmarkwatchcompany.com.
There will be an Earlybird offering at which the watch will be priced at £200.00 which I hope you feel is good value.
Yes, the watch is quartz but with no viable (and reliable) mechanical movement available this was the only way to go, however the Seiko VK64 meca-quartz module is I feel a good choice in this respect. Having had some time now to evaluate the prototypes I have come to the conclusion that I would wear the watch myself! Coming from me, that's a fair indication that I am pleased with it, it certainly feels 'right' on the wrist.
I'm hoping that the 6BB will be the first of many Newmark watches to come but this one needs to succeed first - I must say that developing a watch with the commensurate trials and tribulations is a great way to lose weight!
I am sure that some of you are aware of the project but as a 'just in case' I wanted to post here.
Please feel free to e-mail me or PM me with any questions about the Newmark Chrono and thanks to Eddie for his consent.
Cheers
Ewan
It’s a handsome watch, congratulations!
Just sell one to me now Ewan!!!
wish you all the best with your venture Ewan, I am sure it will go well. regards Dave
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Chaps, I've had a good look at the 6BB for Worn & Wound - I'm writing an early review. Having seen, handled and worn Ewan's watch, I'd say it's an absolute belter. Not only that, but you'd go a long way to meet a more decent bloke.
Put it this way, I'm getting my name down for one.
Welcome Ewan, been keenly following the progress on this from the start(including some really great back and forth communications about the project) and can't wait to get my order in. It might not exactly replace my old mechanical CWC 70's Pilot reissue but it will fill the gap nicely. Best of luck and hope all goes smoothly.
Looking good there Ewan. Given the choice I'd probably take the VK64 over a mechanical movement, robust and accurate.

Any chance of a side elevation shot Ewan?

I am looking forward to this watch
Fingers will be poised on the 29th
Congratulations Ewan on bringing this to its conclusion, it looks great.
It is such a shame that there is no sensbily-priced, but reliable mechanical chronograph movement to use, to be able to keep the original running seconds and chronograph minutes on the sub-dials.
However, the afforbability of the mecha-quartz unit (and, no doubt, your efforts) make this a very attractively-priced watch.
I'll be on the look-out for this.
Dave
Great work Ewan, I’ve subscribed and am very excited by this watch.
I'm definitely in for this and have subscribed. Looks lovely.
Looks great and keenly priced. I expect it’ll be a hit and am looking forward to getting my hands on one!

One question Ewan: are the strap bars fixed? Or will you use spring bars? Thanks

Hat tipped to the Gaffer for allowing small scale producers and start-ups a platform on TZ-UK. Not sure that would happen elsewhere..
p.s. Can't see completely from the link posted but is that a leather-backed canvas nato in the top pic? Looks nice.

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
Looking very nice indeed! Is there a thread discussing the design and build of the watch, and who is assembling it for you?
Thank you!
To be honest, this is the only thread that I have started on any forum regarding the watch; development has had its ups and downs as we say so I felt it best to wait for the end product. I suppose the question many will be asking is 'where is it made?' In that regard, it's China; by one of the better Hong Kong based concerns. Swiss companies wanted absurd amounts of money just to consider the project which wasn't warranted - after all, we were really just reproducing the original design pretty closely.
Cheers

Looks fantastic Ewan. Subscribed and look forward to purchasing. Best of luck

That looks great, good luck with the sales.
Hi Ewan
Congrats on the watch launch. It looks stunning and I wish you all the best with it!

Having known Ewan (and his OCD to details) a long time now, one thing I do know is that this watch will be the best it can possibly be.
I know that nothing has been spared in the putting together of this project. Well behind schedule due to Ewan's persistence in getting everything right. 3 prototypes and manufactures have already been rejected because they just didn't quite come up to his standards and Ewan would not compromise his quality just to get it to market. There was times I thought he may never get this off the ground as he was being so picky with the specs. I have had one of the first prototypes he had produced in my hand, which I thought was pretty dam good. Not so for Ewan, he had to have everything 'bang on' or not at all.
I'm signed up.
Neil
Just signed up
My confirmation went straight to my spam folder, just putting that out there just in case anyone else needs to check where their email went.
I’ll be ordering one... you will post to Canada eh?!?
What an incredible achievement congratulations. The watch is certainly handsome. I apologise if this has been shared already but can you share the story behind how this all got started?

Looks fantastic for the money... I only own 2 modern watches, but, I may well add another to the list
Great work 👍
That's awesome! I'm signed up.
Good look with the venture Ewan
Dave
Thanks for the heads up Ewan, I had no idea this was in the pipeline. Having a little experience in watch production I know how exasperating it can be at times, so good on you for persevering and all the best with Newmark.
It's a lovely looking watch and I've been intrigued by the meca quartz movement for a while now but have never actually owned one. Signed up and looking forward to further updates.
Cheers,
Gary

Just subscribed. That looks lovely.
Hi all
Thanks for your kind comments on this and words of encouragement - it is really appreciated.
Quite a few of you have joined our mailing list over the last couple of days and there will be updates before we launch in 3 weeks' time. If you've signed up but received a confirmation mail, please double check your spam folder!
I'm always around to answer any questions - to answer a couple today:
Yes, we'll be shipping worldwide :-)
How did the project come about? Very briefly, it was literally a case of being sat in the garden one day a couple of years ago and wondering if 'Newmark' was available for registration and why nobody had made a modern version of the 6BB chronograph. Nobody had, so I have! Please spread the word!
Big thanks again to Eddie and to you all.
Cheers
Ewan
Hello
What does the Seiko movement look like on these, I tried googling it but wasn't sure if I'd got images of the right one.
I know it's a quartz, I'm just curious.
Fabulous project by the way, well done it looks superb.
Dave
Looks like you have done a marvellous job,I expect it’s given you a feeling of accomplishment.
