Looking at the list of films mentioned could this be considered the golden time of film making? Those mentioned so far certainly stir up more emotion and memory then most of the dross knock out in the last 20 yrs. Apart from deadpool though, nothing tops deadpool. Oh and just about anything with Michael Caine in

Ocean Eleven and Thomas Crown Affair, is that really being that long?! ;)
Fas est ab hoste doceri
The first Ocean's 11, with Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Angie Dickinson, etc., was 1960. The first Thomas Crown Affair, with Steve McQueen, was 1968.
I would like to add the 60s Italian neorealist films, from Fellini to V de Sica and from Visconti to Bertolucci and Rossellini.
Also the Japanese directors made outstanding contributions to the art, with Ozu’s last movies, Imamura, Kurosawa, even though the Golden years of Japanese cinema were the 50s.
'Against stupidity, the gods themselves struggle in vain' - Schiller.
Some great choices so far, to which I add Get Carter and Point Blank.

If you like French movies the original 'Nikita' is stunning followed closely by a Belgian feature 'Man Bites Dog' the premise of which is hilarious but the darkness of the presentation is challenging. 'Le Grand Bleu' is great as well.

Clockwise (the John Cleese film) is a fantastic trip down memory lane for people who grew up in the 1980s.
We saw it on a coach trip to the Lake District.
Great fun film with lots of memories to boot!
