Stuck in the house for the past few days so a quick unnecessary trip round the inlaws to check the Audi in the snow was needed.
Actually not too bad, most of it had turned to slush but there were still loads of drifts like the one in the pic. There's some great footage on YouTube of them doing some quite severe off-roading and was quite surprised.
Tyre wise, not sure what they come with from standard, I assume P Zeros which are on there currently however I may consider them when these new ones wear out.
I gave my other half’s Beemer series 1 cab a bit of a drive this morning. Definitely more tail happy on snow but fun rather than scary with the winter tyres

Depending on your budget, there are a couple of ex Military specialists that sell out to the public. You can then do it yourself or get someone to do it. I used Rugged Guide to do Desert Rat.

I acquired a sheddy old BMW E39 530d Touring almost exactly 12 months ago and whilst it's been nothing short of a money pit in those 12 months, I've been fairly bitten by the E39 bug. It was in my mind to keep a look out for a petrol version (never been much of a fan of diesel) and this sort of fell into my lap last week so I drove down on Monday to pick it up.
120k on the clock, two owners from new (second owner is friends with the first and went with him to pick it up from new at the dealership in '99). Has a receipts folder 2 inches thick meticulously organised by date and an exemplary service history. And for nearly 20 years old it's in tremendous condition all round.
It's a 1999 523i 5 series 'SE' but with factory option for Sport upgrades - including shadow line trim, wheels from the V8 model, sport suspension, sport interior and steering wheel. It drives absolutely superbly.
Had a slight scare on Monday when the expansion tank blew (the very day I picked it up) after giving a bit too much welly trying to get it into the garage.. however upon inspection it was an unbranded part which had been fitted, was a few years old, and they are a known / common fault on the E39 so I'm trying to remain optimistic it was bad luck rather than some horrible underlying issue. Easy enough DIY job and not very expensive and she's back on the road again!
What did I pay for this handsome slice of Bavarian automotive awesomeness? Just £1,300.
Cheers.
2007 Porsche Carrera 2 S, delivered today by the previous owner I'm the third owner and the previous chap bought it in 2011. He's a true petrol head who also has a competition prepared 1971 Lancia Fulvia HF and Lotus Elan III in his immaculate garage. He looked after it correctly with no expense spared, I have a huge file of receipts for over £31ks worth of work carried out in the 6.5 years he owned the car, £13k of that was for a fully documented Hartech engine rebuild at 78k miles. It had 6 x alloy Nikasil closed deck liners and pistons, new mains, big end and thrust bearings, timing chains, guides, water pump, big end bolts, heads de-coked, skimmed, valves lapped etc, etc. It has no rattles or squeaks, beautifully taught handling, the engine sounds glorious and the bodywork is in fantastic order. Loads of useful (and not so useful) options, it also came with a spare set of fully refinished wheels with nearly new winter tyres fitted! And of course I'm as happy as anyone could be that the engine isn't going to be landing me with a huge bore score rebuild bill anytime soon.
Excuse the hasty pictures!
Anyone after a low mileage beautifully cared for Mazda MX5 :thumbsup?
You graduated to a MX(0)7. Congrats !

Very nice car. What’s with the spacing of the number plate though ?
Great car Duncan, especially with the Hartech rebuild, enjoy!

Glad you got one Duncan. That looks a real cracker too.
Daily is a L200, the 993 when I can be arsed to get it out!
It is lovely, had a few over the years and managed to get this one before they were totally out of my price range, I did have to sell my Caterham to fund it, and now I wish I had managed to keep both, so I've managed to find a tired Caterham to buy and re-build, that'll give me something to do.
I also have a 1957 Austin Healey 100/6, haven't driven it in a year!
Wasn't so much their assessment (which was unfailingly positive) it was the fact that it ended up in flames in a puddle of melted tarmac. Naturally they said it was a prototype and this would never happen to a production car ............ but then they would wouldn't they? I'd wait for the Mark 2 lol
My current (on/off-road) run-about...
Cheers

Sad to see the wife's Forester 2.5xt go. It was silly fast for an SUV and great fun but 99% of the time we never really got to use the performance and felt it was time to put the extra cash we were paying on fuel and crazy parts prices towards something a bit newer and more sensible instead.
We choose a Honda CRV to replace it. Chalk and cheese (in SUV terms) in comparison to the Surabu I guess but it's much bigger and more comfortable so great for our young family.
Of course it doesn't shoot off down the road in the same way as the Subaru but the 2.2 Diesel feels quick enough with plenty of torque.

That's some ICE you have there. Not seen an aerial that big for a long time.
Took delivery of this Jaguar E-Pace Saturday. Not up to the spec of the Porsches and others on here but it should be ok for us. So far so good, drives really nice and not missing the RR Evoque. (they do share some parts!)
Just ordered this
995kg, manual, petrol
270bhp less than my other car, but its supposed to make the commute fun

That looks like fun. Let us know, please - I've had a couple of Up!s as courtesy cars, and they're a lot of fun, so the GTI must be spectacular.
